Non-specialist crew, when I care - that depends on the career. If I am with military - welcome uniforms.
Combat guys typically wear armor where applicable - assassins, saboteurs and occasional spy would wear clothing.
It gets tedios setting the uniforms as you go along, or when you get a new big barracks and can get more sailors.
Or worse, when you have a particularly bad battle that causes death and desertion.
YES. Even cooler if you could carry it between games...
In my case, it's definitely due to prior military service. Having a standard uniform is just second nature.
The rest of my crew usually gets a standard uniform, but I'll often use a certain hat or eyeware option to show what job they have. So I can tell them at a glance. (For example having all Crew Dogs wear a wooll hat, and all navigators wear the same tech glasses)
I'll also further rename the crew to put their jobs in there. For example changing the name of a navigator to "Navigator <surname>'
