boarding vs ship combat

So, I'm wondering what the pros and cons of boarding vs ship combat are, as far as I can tell

ship combat:
faster, since you need to fight multiple boarding actions to beat an enemy ship
don't need to get into boarding range to destroy the enemy ship
no need for a strong away crew

boarding:
can ignore ship weapons if you are boarding only
I THINK you get higher rewards if you board a ship instead of blowing it up (correct me if I'm wrong)
Away crew solves all your combat problems so if you have a strong one you can handle all combat

Am I missing anything? The biggest issue I've had with boarding combat is how long it takes. Wish you didn't need to fight multiple times to take a ship.
