As long as the trade-in price of a lower level locker is a fraction of what its original purchase price was, players will always be trying to skip straight from Lv. 1 and Lv. 5 (and dying in the process). Nobody enjoys feeling as though they're wasting money.
The in-game starport filters are you friend for finding components of any type or with any minimum requirements.
Ignore Mins + All Factions will give you a look at *everything*.
Only time I might go A5 is if I'm never doing ship combat.
It takes up a small slot and is over mass compared to majority of small slots.
I guess A5 is good if you aren't playing the contact game or just have crew and not officers so you don't need gear.
Honestly not that much difference for many builds between a3 and a5. Some builds it matters.
1) Weapons locker levels are not dependent on Starport rating (thought you need at least 6 to have a starport) but Military rating. When in doubt, go to the faction capitol - they always have high stats in both.
2) Weapons lockers become a waste of space once you've got contacts for weapons, armor and military gear. This is because lockers only go up to level 5 but contacts go up to level 7, and unless you're really, really bad at ground combat there is no reason for you to equip your entire crew when just your away team will suffice. There are also special missions that give unique items beyond level 7, but honestly, even a 4 person team with all level 7 gear will absolutely curb-stomp anything unless you've deliberately jacked up your own difficulty level to masochist levels.
One-shot kills are not out of the question, even with just pistols. At Normal difficulty, an all level-7 gear team can routinely wipe out the enemy in boarding combat before they can even gets one shot off.
Question....why have them for sale anyway.....
Sometimes you could win battle and loose the war...
In this case win the argument and lose perpective....why have things in game if you can't have or dont want?
Sorry you're so down on the difficulty and price scaling of important items within the game. A5 is not out of financial reach, I don't think. If you are climbing the right Contact ladders, you might equip your combat team with gear that beats A5, but that requires focus on a certain type of play. Lots of players are not doing this which probably explains why it is such a popular component still even after the price bumps.
So why the price bump (50%)?... What is the intent.....
