How do you get recruits with good attribute?
I've been running into this problem. If any of my starting combat crew dies mid game, I'm having the toughest time replacing them. I have the discerning glanc talent and conscription talent. However, all the recruits I get usually have str/quickness in the teens, and it seems like attributes are one of the main factors in crew combat. I'm just running with high level conscripts but they all suck. Is there any hidden factors that I don't know or is it just ♥♥♥♥♥♥ RNG?

As I understand it, there are lots of hidden factors concerning planet type, faction, and rank (and maybe others). For rank and file crew, impressing enemy crew after a battle can work. But yeah, the lack of transparency is a bit frustrating because you don't know if it is RNG or a poor choice on your part.

The RNG hates you, but don't feel bad, the RNG hates everyone.

I actually jotted down some numbers for the card games, and concluded that any time I have 4 green cards and 1 red one, I will get the red one over 70% of the time. The game's dice have enough lead in them to safely store plutonium.

@DrDoom - the factors are the planet's stats and whether your in the spice hall or talking to a Contact. Contact recruits get a boost. Contact officers get the best boost. Danger, economy, spice, government, planet atmosphere, military rating, etc all have impacts on the attribute generation. We're working on making this more clear in game.

Sorry that you're seeing that pattern. It is a 20% chance.

Getting recruits with good stats and traits is so important to me in the long run that I spam recruting talents on good ports.

With spice halls vs contact recruist for ground combat crew, I ended up spamming the spice halls in the beginning to save credits. I had got really good or above average recruits before. But to get the good ones, you usually have to spam a lot with recruiting talent, especially from the spice hall. You can get lucky but spamming is more reliable. All the ports I spammed on had close to 10 stat in everything.

When all recruiting talents are on cool down, I stop spamming because most of the recruits I get without the talent is bad.

I had yet to find a conscript with awesome attributes from the get go.

Thanks for the post.

RNG is a frickle beast, it's not imposible for me to run up to 49% mission success chance on a very unlucky streak.

Interesting. What do you mean by spice hall? So what's the ideal planet to recruit generic recruits on? Would you mind giving us a hint?

Here's a few attribute modifiers I know. High Military and wolds with either very low atmo or very high atmo get Fortitude boosts. Ice worlds are BAD for quickness. Radiation worlds have good Resilience. Ocean worlds tend to have low combat stats but good Charisma. High Econ worlds also have good Charisma. Bigger sized planets have higher Strength.

there is also a Quartermaster talent if i remember right which reveals a hidden trait. If it triggers your new member gets a bonus on attributes.
If you recruit with no invest you get really crap guys as replacing.

Theres a Commander and MO talent for attributes + trait gleaned.

The talent that you're looking for is Discerning Glance, and you do want to use it. It seems to average about 20 more point in attributes for new crew than without it.

On average, 10 points. But absolutely as @nephilimnexus suggests, it is important. At least one officer should bring a recruit Talent to the table.

Can I make a suggestion regarding recruits from starting contacts? I know there's a level of randomness to the planets these contacts get assigned to in your starting sector. But it kind of blows that I may be banking on that Retired Xeno Hunter for getting decent recruits (cuz I've probably only got two starting contacts), but the RNG decided to dump him on a tiny Dagoba swamp planet with no Military or Pop rating, meaning his recruits are all scrubs, Discerning Glance or no. I'd suggest that recruits for starting contacts get immunity from negative planetary effects. Either that, or the logic driving sector creation looks around and says, "Oh, these are the best planets in the starting sector" and then physically dumps those starting contacts on those worlds. Just my two cents.

@jonp - great suggestion, we'll take a look at forcing the Contact seeder to be more aggressively picking the best of the zones. This will probably help with a few other issues that crop up around their services not being useful on their chose location.
