Wild Flying, you nubble :P .

But you inflict morale damage to your crew, while making it harder to land shots (Barrel Roll reduces your damage, but at least shots will land and some damage will be taken). Arguably +10% Shield is also more valuable than +10% Armor, as Armor is easier to build into ship designs. Finally Barrel Roll provides 5% more defence than Wild Flying.

NEXT CONTENDER!

I think I almost never have any commanders on board. It's really almost impossible to find from contacts even after 60 years of in game time.

Plus they don't help in any card games. Or seizing of ships but I use pirates for that way more profit.

For a class that has no crew combat skill having 4 talents is strange. I mean 4 talents for crew combat is really high. Especially when they can't fire a weapon if they are single classed crewmen.

Very strange job class. I don't really feel them

They offer command points, which is why darion mentions them. Command points factor into Defence in ship combat as Standard dice. If you stack commanders you stack command points and in turn Defence.

But talents make up for a far greater difference (they're straight additive bonuses), especially if you want other skill sets on your crew (I can't live without my merchants, diplomats, pirates, scavengers...!).

So I still stand by thread title :)

YOU CAN'T TOUCH THIS! [/mc]

I think Jimmy's point is that mil officer has the same command dice as commander, and better talents. It is also true that after you finish call of the strong then you can recruit mil officer right from the start. There aren't any starting contacts that offer commanders, and contacts that offer commanders are relatively rare. So, you can have 10 high level mil officers pretty early, which is much harder to do with commanders.

On the original topic, do you mean barrel roll is the best ship talent period? It depends if you want offence or defense, for one thing. It's hard to beat commander level 11 Coordinated Fire, +35% Dmg, +25% Critical if you aren't going to get hit anyway.
