Eidophor battle
I'm curious, has anyone actually managed to beat this guy, and if so, how??

This guy is the main bad dude.

When I get to him I had the coral knife and was able to steal my mothers necklace back off him. This gives me one respawn if I die. The problem is all my weapons and armour have been taken and I have only one offence and one defence. Given he has 5 offence and 4 defence winning is an impossibility and he has a good chance of killing you in one blow. Should he kill you the necklace will bring you back to life but Eidophor will now have 10 more hitpoints meaning that the guy is now even more ridiculously difficult to kill. Its exasperating that the game ends this way as I was actually enjoying it to this dementedly unbalance fight. Ive tried taking different paths to get to this battle but I always get stripped of my weapons and armour before this fight leaving me with no realistic chance against him. Its a shame as it destroyed all goodwill I had toward this game.

I actually managed to get through by completely starting again from scratch and picking up the companion Esplanadian. It was frustrating as I had tried to get the theif on the playthrough but due to the path I had taken, didn't have any prayers to help me get her. The net result was an unwinabble battle hours later. Frustrating

I was playing the game in casual mode (since I always loved checking out the various other entries when reading real gamebooks) and I took the Amadis the bard route, in which you keep all of your weapons and armor. Also I'm not sure if Eidophor had the same amount of offense and defence, did he also have his full fighting capability lessened because he didn't wear his ring?

Also I don't remember having to steal the necklace back, is that story different when you play it with the thief/warrior? In the bard route you find it elsewhere. Since you have the option of stealing it back in your route, what happens with it in the end? Can you keep it or does it also somehow end up being destroyed by being used in the bard route?

My problem was that I had no companions. You only get one chance to get one during a non casual playthrough ,and the first time I chose the theif who is quite easy to miss if you don't have an exact item needed. When you arrive at the end battle without a friend to help you, Ephidor is at full strength and you have 1 defense and 1 attack. So yeah, not very pleasant. Restarting was my best option

I picked the thief, Classic style. She sticked to me till the end. So what item made you miss her?

She hid the amulet without retrieval, and I could fight Eidophor fully with all my items (5/6 weapon, 4/6 armor). Just had to run 2 fitness-upped attacks and he was dead.

After you return with the amulet she is attacked by some sort of shadow creature, if you haven't visited your murdered friends family in your home town and gotten the mother to pray for you, the thief is murdered by the shadow creature and you miss her entirely

Ouch. But yeah, I did get that... I just assumed it would save you a fitness roll from the way it was written.

I had no idea what was coming and was playing on traditional mode so I only had a few bookmarks :) Oh well, it worked out in the end and on other playthroughs I got her
