i solved problem of widescreen on nvidia control panel, on screen menù i forced desktop resolution on gpu.
OS window 7 64bit, my video card is gtx770 and now my gpu works always at 1920x1080.
The game is in centre, full height but 2 black strips left and right.
so the better monitor the higher resolution i have 1600*1200 at 24"monitor widescreen
and you need to start a campaign/map then settings can be found... odd place that its not in main menu.
as Proteone try to explan its the native monitor standard resolutions he take,
and you will never get wide screen, that require unoffical patch or other things that can fiddle with game core engine to overrule that.
You can try to make work with DXWrapper. Also it can help you to switch Tropico 1 to Hardware mode without models broken. May be it will work, May be not. No guarantie. Just try.
