The first game was more similar to Blue Archive. Lots of fan overlap. This one sadly didn't keep the same vibe but that might change later.

It seems people are really starting to notice the fanservice in this sequel is not exactly as hyped as was assumed.
I recommend looking through the GFL1 "damaged" artworks for each character. You'll definitely notice a difference in direction both in design and in their strategy. Like here in 2 the dorm is all there is really and no romance at all. A few looping animation poses surprisingly don't have the same impact as unlocking a 2D skin in the original or getting oath..

As for gameplay I actually do enjoy it since its just a more watered down version of XCOM 2 but mixed with the modern gacha ability mechanics.
All it really needs is to hook you with a vibe similar to the original game with more moe, it can't rely on fanservice since the first game and Blue Archive do that better, unless it adds in some serious romance and cuter waifus.

It's launch, and I can already see incoming problems.

Guess they never learn from GFL:NC mistake either.

Everything you said applies to Blue Archive too though. At least GFL2 is trying to do something not seen before with regards to gacha gameplay in a tactical-style with its XCOM influence; Blue Archive is just a clone of Princess Connect, lol.

I agree that the gameplay isn't very good. I wasn't expecting Xcom levels of difficulty, but this game is just so... boring. half way through the story I just put it on autoplay to get through it.

Sadly, the end game is just more of the same. So, I've dropped the game.
