Friendly Reminder for Combat Exercises
You gain nothing for losing a defense, so it's considered courteous to put a single weak doll on defense to make the dailies easier for other players. At least for unranked matches.

Real question here from a newb, but doesn't the game usually throw in one or two low combat rating NPC teams on each lineup roll? Does it stop doing that once you hit higher levels?

I'm 38 rn and at least 2 of the 5 teams are always called "simulation objects" that are always under-leveled/very low combat rating relative to what I'm running. So I've always thought these were just NPC teams to allow folks trying to get their dailies to do so without getting clapped by some whale's souped up team of golden dolls.

I'm not a rabid min-maxer, but I do like to optimize, so I've been using Combat exercises to get a feel-for what best practices are (other than running Suomi) and get a feel for where my team is at without having to look up guides. I'm starting to get tired of having to use up all my lineup re-rolls because of this practice. No h8 though, I'm just being inconvenienced here at worst.

Will I just have to bite the bullet and join a clan to actually do the noted without just looking up build guides?

Simulation objects are low leveled npcs, they also don't reward much because of that. You also get 5 reroll storage at a replenishment rate of 1 an hour. So really less about the daily than it is about people trying to climb the ranks as fast as they can.

It's not worded great, but yea Combat Exercise should be just seen as a resource farm. You're not gauged against anyone so long as everyone gets the maximum points per round everyone can sit at the very top and earn the max resource each week. The bots also disappear at some point, not that you should really be fighting them as the points per rank increases with each rank, and you still get demoted by a rank every week.

Once you hit Adept V you unlock Military Sim which should more than easily scratch your itch for testing your squad. Here you get 5 combat chances every 8 hours and winning and losing actually matters so it does take some time since you probably won't be able to auto an uneven match.
