Everyone is glad about having a single player campaign, a movement that was as totally unexpected as desired by everyone. However, the single player campaign (or at least, at it's current state) has been dissapointing.
The main issue is how it has been planned. 45% of the time you'll be acomplishing missions, piloting your powerful grinder, fighting another enemy grinders, escorting a convoy... whatever.
The problem is: what about the other 55% of the time?. You'll be inside a spaceship, hearing a loooots of conversations with the other NPCs (very slow conversations many times), doing uninteresting stuff/favors to the other NPCs and, in general, getting bored a lot. Simply put: it didn't work. This planning didn't work. In fact, some days ago an option to skip all this so-called "Intermissions" had to be added to the game. And on top of it, at least for me: the AI, BLUE, pretending to steal the show and having too much protagonism in the game... to the point of speaking for you and responding to the questions that NPCs ask to you. I didn't liked that not even a single bit. Pretended to be funny, or something. It was not.
And that's the two sides of the same coin you must settle for. One are the grinders: the combats, the weapons, the severed limbs... the feeling of being piloting your powerful grinder in a very interesting way from the point of simulation. This game is unique, there's no other game out there like this.
The other one... is the failure related to the single player campaign. The slow and tiring pace in the uninteresting so-called "Intermissions", that accomplish too much time; at least, now they can be skipped, but that's just a mock for what really happened: it didn't work.
I don't know whether it's unfair or not to speak in this way, but I feel it's better for them to do it so. A more dynamic game flow in the line of games such as X-Wing or Tie Fighter had probably worked a lot better, but what's done is done.
Are the actual action missions fun, interesting, unique or comprehensive?
That being said, it's fair to say that certain side-quests and item grab portions could be frustrating if the player wasn't given the option to avoid them. In a future update, we will be further refining the intermissions to make a large portion of those item quests optional instead of being mandatory as they are now. We hope in this way, that the player can choose to spend as little or as much time on ship depending on their interest level.
Regardless, multiplayer is where it's at for sure. I've never had such a well balanced Mech experience.
Similar to both the EA Strike game series for the SNES & Sega Genesis but also Battletech released for both systems in 1994. Which is to make a series of levels that have you complete basic missions at the same time fighting the enemies deployed Mech squads out for defense. Finally ending with you coming across a major Mech Enemy, kill then repeat for around 8 levels would make a good addition to the game's SP portion IMHO.
Will you consider updating the SP in the future? It would be a definite buy from me then.
Look for the game Hybrid Wars on STEAM. It's a decently priced nice little single player Mech game, it has some really nice SNES like graphics and epic scenes of destruction occurring in the back ground as you're playing the side scrolling game.
Hmm it doesn't sound like this will be the mech game to replace mech warrior franchise sadly I'll keep a loose eye on this but I'm not really into mp games anymore I'm done with the toxic mic screamers rather just play by myself anymore and wanted to use a big mech and blow off arms and legs off other mechs with it.
hey I'm thoroughly enjoying the single player of Vox Machine.. and I've been playing games since Mechwarrior 2 in the 90s! I love how this is equally playable in pancake as well as VR.
If you devs continue working on this game and building out the mech tree mechanics you could have a long term special gem on your hands. It would get more and more popular as time goes on.
Awesome good to know. Thank you for sharing!
