Castle Xenon

Castle Xenon

sidequests
anyone found anything extra to do at end game?

I know there is a section of the mines with the door at the end. I never went back down for the trumpet item in the blue box because of the gauntlet hallway to get there and back out but was wondering if that opens up something else as well.

Saving the town turned to stone didn't seem to lead to anything new or meaningful.

I've got some Ore in my inventory that says "for making weapons" but i can't find anyone to give it to. I thought the smith with the blue fire south of the ruined castle would want it.

I haven't been able to find Dragon Armor for the magic knight either.

I've found it easy, but still time consuming, to grind on Fireman tiles in the volcano. There are 2 normal chests next to each other that both have a guaranteed solo Fireman on the tiles in front of them, or once you get stronger there is another blue chest further down with a guaranteed double Fireman fight you can walk on and off of for very quick fights when you get strong enough to attack them down.

edit:

just flew over the vortex in the ocean near the ruined castle, not sure what that does either.

there's a book "The heros book" but its in a language that can't be read.

the mondar orb.

thank you so much for playing my game! congratulations on getting all the way to the end!
I think you have done most of what there is, from the sound of it...

I will tell you the intended grinding spots were
The mountain after Zetzel joins
When you first get to the southern continent
The tower of doel/final dungeon

I think those are the places where there is more of a noticeable increase in exp

The Firemen probably also work well though, good catch

For sidequests, the larger one is the town/mine area... The angel trumpet is probably worth acquiring for the end game, less so of course if you have the Raise spell though. Well, it is possible to never learn that spell, in which you might need a way to revive fallen party members in battle ;) The others are more so just NPCs asking for a specific item(s) like obtaining the magic key, and then the hidden starpieces to find throughout

The ores are only used for healing in the one area, should you need it / flavor reasons

The book doesn't do anything, unfortunately. It was just added in the case I ever made an expansion/dlc/new area, you would access it by examining the book :)
Hey thanks for replying. I was grinding in the final area as well, sometimes the Fireman grind felt better just because the instant encounters.

I've been putting off doing the final dungeon run trying to figure everything out but it sounds like i just need to finish already.

The book was definitely something i spent time trying to crack.

My current party has 3 Raise casters it's been so nice. Poor Myria always gets focused down.

So for things like the diamond quest there isn't any reward or follow up, just a turn in?
Are there any other hidden tiles like the jeweler or the lizard man hideout on cat island?

Despite how hard it is i am enjoying the game, it would be fun to be able to do some kind of new game+ with bonus exp/gold or some other gimmick to try out other class paths during the game. I was really anticipating a ninja instead of magic knight but the magic knight is fun.

Well, for the diamond quest you at least get exp for completing it, I think it was like 2,000? For the sleeping fairy quest you get access to the shop, and the weapon for myria, though not as a healer. For hidden tiles there is also the fisherman near the volcano, where if you pray at the statue it reduces the probability of surprise encounters. For the difficulty I wanted it to be about as hard as we remembered games being when we were kids, but if you go back to say Breath of Fire now as an adult, it's actually quite easy. Glad you enjoyed it. And yeah, a NG+ like that would have been a good idea, but not something I could have thought of before. Ninja probably would have made more sense from a gameplay perspective and would follow the FF1 formula, but the idea was the character should still learn something like, intrinsic racial magic, even if you don't follow the spellcaster path?
I'll have to check out that spot.

Well i think you nailed it, breath of fire 1 & 2 i used to think were impossible as a kid. You definitely made the mimic fights "fun".

The magic knight worked great i was just too focused on the names of the two previous classes and thinking what would come next.
