Copying and Pasting Wills
There shouldn't be the option to do something like this for "Proof" of what you are in the game.

Copying and Pasting wills is not proof of anything. Any good bad-guy player is going to keep a will for his fake role. However, there is nothing wrong with asking for wills because those are in game. It is not the same as asking for abilties or attributes as those require an out of game resource (aka The Wiki) in order to fake them.

Just use this as a learning experience and next time have a fake will ready to go if they ask for one.

If the option of copy/pasting wills was not there, people would still demand proof for your role claim. You would still be expected to log your actions so that you can back up your role claim with facts that the townies can check, such as "I healed player 13 in night 1".

Whether or not wills can be copy/pasted, hardly makes a difference. It does make it a bit easier for the town to receive verifiable info, since copy/pasting is quicker than typing. On the other hand, the information overload from copy/pasted wills can lead to townies not spotting mistakes in them. In any case, removing the ability to copy/paste wills would not change the game. You still have to build up a good cover story if you're playing a bad guy.

Wills are pretty vital to the game, not because they are foolproof, but because the time pressure is real in this game. When you have less than a minute to sift through 4 different peoples claims, one of them has to be false, 3 are real. It would be nice if you could casually say "OK you said you were an invest, where have you been", ok so where were you night 2 what was your result? etc...

Wills aren't proof of anything, they are claims. Each claim opens the door for trickery by the scum, and verification for the town. OK so you say you are the transporter, who have you transported? Or the lookout can aknowledge that the "sheriff" claims to have checked bob, when he was watching bob.

Wills are a way of working around the time pressure, to let the arms race of false vs real claims compete.

And yeah, they're super easy to fake if you're evil, but there are always discrepancies that a smart town will notice. If you claim lookout and say no one visited Player A on night 1, Player B may speak up and say that they did visit, as well as posting their own will.

The only time I don't agree with wills being such a huge part of the game is in classic mode, where I've seen a lot of new players get lynched because they don't understand that it's absolutely critical to keep a will. New players don't really get what keeping a will means exactly, and get confused when asked to copy and paste it, which leads to mislynches.

(Although that's why we need a tutorial for the game really)

They did have one at one point, at least it was briefly on the public test realm durring the 1.5 tests. Admitted it was comically hilarious, and didn't exactly leave a good example for will keeping.

It had the player as a serial killer. It instructs him night 1 to kill player 2, shows player 2's will the next day

"I am a medium, I can talk to the dead".

next night you get jailed, it instructs you to tell the jailor "I am a doctor"
Jailor responds "I believe you"
Jailors will "Playerone told me he is a doctor, I believed him".

Player3: He's lying, I am the doctor
(narrator: Defend yourself, claim to the town "I am a doctor"
PlayerOne: I am a doctor
Player3: He's lying
Player 4 has voted against player 3
Player 5 has voted against player 3

I was laughing for like 30 minutes after playing that tutorial. it became a pretty big meme on the PTR for a while as well. Common names were "Iamadoctor" and "Ibelieveyou".
