How to get better at being jailor?
I've been playing this game for over 300 hours now, absolutely love this for some reason. Although I absolutely suck at being the jailor. I can't decide if I should execute or not. I end up getting confused and go after the wrong person.

For example, the last game I played I was jailor. One night, the person I jailed claimed bodyguard. The next day, bodyguard died guarding someone. Although for some reason, I didn't jail and execute the person that claimed bodyguard, since there were no RT dead and still a slim chance of him actually being bodyguard. I jailed someone else, and they didn't speak. I had to execute them, and they ended up being sheriff. The bodyguard claimer ended up being godfather.

Another game I was jailor in, the framer gamethrew and said that 11, 10, 13 are all mafia. I jailed 10, and he claimed bodyguard. I insinctively didn't kill him, but then decided the next night to execute him. He was bodyguard. I then looked, two mafia were then dead, the gamethrower and 10. Oddly enough, 11 was gone, and only 2 mafia died. When this was happening, 13 was claiming lookout, and got upset whenever he got accused, confusing me. Especially since 11 was gone, i thought framer was just "framing" and messing trolling. I ended up not killing him, and 13 was mafia.

And other games, I just get super confused and end up siding with the mafia on accident just because I have no idea what is going on, even though I've been paying attention?

What is your best approach at getting better with being jailor? I really enjoy being jailor but I end up screwing it up quite often. Maybe I'm too jaded/influence by negative experiences?

When I play as jailor, looking for certain things has served me well. This list is in no particular order:

1. When I jail someone, I immediately execute any non-town role claims. I know some people poo-poo executing survivors, jesters, etc. However there is always the real possibility that they are either lying outright or will eventually side against town. Eliminate that variable.

2. If the first thing someone says to me when I jail them is "Why me?" or someting along those lines, I execute them. It's a classic response of someone who is busted and scared.

3. If there are no kills the night I've jailed someone, I jail them again. If this happens more than 2 nights running, I execute.

4. During the day, I look for people who either start random lynches or call for someone's role out of the blue. Less experienced maf players tend to go after someone they've blackmailed or who they think is immune (sk, arso, etc.) in the hopes of getting them lynched. If someone indicates that they've been blackmailed, I look for the first person who votes them up. When I jail them, they best be very convincing or they get executed.

5. Also during the day, if someone is accused of being maf, I look for others who immediately or repeatedly say things like, "So and so must be exe", "X is inno, I checked them last night". Way more times than not this is a maf teammate thinking they are being helpful by muddying the water.

6. Lastly, I look at lynch vote patterns. When a non-maf is accused, the votes needed usually come fast because the maf joins the vote. If, however, someone is accused and the gathering of votes is protracted, it often means the person is maf (or vamp) and their team is holding back the vote.

None of the above is foolproof. You will occasionally screw up. But you will have a much higher success rate than failure rate. Following the above has lead me to being accused of being a 'hacker' on more than one occasion. Hope it helps some.

Edit: Forgot to mention, keep a will. But don't reveal what the folks that you jail claim if they claim a town role. If you get killed, your will could then become a priority list for the town's opponents.

I tend to play jailor pretty straight forward. Mind you, how I do it I don't really always recommend, but it gets me good results.

1. Kill anyone who isn't town for reasons given by Larry

2. Pay attention to the game and have a generally good idea why you're jailing someone every night. Don't just go down a list. This way when you jail someone, you have a sort of idea in your mind what they may be, whether you're likely to execute or not, and how to react if they say something that contradicts that premonition.

3. Watch how people vote, what they say, what they claim, how they behave. There are certain cues to how a townie behaves compared to how non-town do. And if they're not town, follow step 1.

4. This one's contriversal perhaps and might not work in newbie games mind you. Don't even ask for role/will. People know when they're jailed that they should tell you. If they're not trying to convince you as soon as they're jailed, then they're jerking your chain, stalling, or waiting for verbal queues from you before spinning a story. Don't give them that chance or yell for a role. Just hit the execute and let them convince you to turn it off. Seems to work.

5. If anyone tries to pull the "but why" line or try to jerk you around, just off them. Time is short and you got none of it to waste on nonsense. Convince me you're not worth killing or goodbye.

6. Arrest people occasionally you know are inno but need to protect or gather info from, like mayors or investigators.

7. Write every arrest down in your will as well as all claims.

8. Have fun and use your position to get some jollies off.

Y'know what I love to do? Convince the people I'm jailing that I'm crazy, stupid, or operating solely on luck, even when I'm actually paying attention and picking my targets carefully. I arrest and ask people I know I'm going to kill to pick a num from 1 to 10. If they convince me I'm wrong somehow, then I'll let them go, even if they give me a number like 11 or something.

If I'm not convinced (and usually I'm not going to be if I'm playing this game with someone I'm arresting), every number they give is wrong by default and I kill them with some apology line like "ohhh the correct answer was actually 6. You were so close, but I'm afraid you go home with nothing. Thanks for playing!"

It's just funny to see the dead chat after, with all the dead evil roles raging, thinking I chose to execute them off entirely arbitrary reasoning. That the only reason I killed them was because they picked the wrong number and their loss was totally coincidental when in reality, they had given enough cues to their guilt loooong before arrest.

Anyway, point is don't be afraid to get a bit goofy ;).

So..... Everything that other people said but also when someone claims but doesnot give u a will (for example medium claim says "What? Mediums dont keep wills.") then execute. Thay are most likely to be mafia/nk/ne. Or thay are just stupid thats the possibilitie too.

Also if someone posts will in parts (for example bg calim says "n1 bobby" then after some time "n2 larry" then after some more time "n3 Banananananan" and so on) thay are probably writing the will right there. So execute them.

Also after u got the will on the next day look at the log and see if everyone who thay put in the will were alive that night. Cause sometines fake wills have names of people who already died (for example in invest calim it says "n4 Bobby is gf/bg/arso" But bobby died day before n4.)
