How do scrolls work?

I've purchased some scrolls that came with one of those deals, I'm still new to the game and don't exactly know how they work. Do you lose a scroll once you equip one and get the role the scroll has, or do you lose it nomatter what role you get?

You have an increased chance of getting the role, but it is not a certainty. I've never bought a scroll, so someone else will have to verify, but I believe you lose the scroll whether you get the desired role or not.

You equip a scroll, and if the role on the scroll is actually in the game, it increases the chance of you getting the role against everyone elses chances and scrolls. The game calculates probability of you getting the role as seen on the wheel with the % on it.

If you don't get the role or the role is not in the game, you keep the scroll.
If you get the role, the scroll burns up and is spent.

Scrolls don't guarantee you getting a role, just increase the chance. You can't guarantee a role because if 15 people all have mafioso scrolls the game wouldn't have any way to deal with that situation. That's why you are never guaranteed a role if you equip a scroll.

Scrolls are good if you have a role you like to play but don't get often. I myself buy executioner and jester scrolls since i like those roles but don't get to play them as often as i'd like so yeah.
