Referral codes what do they do?

If I were to give someone a referral code does that mean they can activate this game on steam or how does it work?

It's for the browser version. You get 5 free games, and then you have to either buy ToS or get a new code. The person who gave it to you if you upgrade gets coins.

Be mindful that, if someone who uses your refferal code breaks the rules in any way and is found guilty in the trial system, your account will be found guilty too. So be careful who you give codes to. A lot can happen in 5 games. Don't just hand them out to anyone because a boter can use your code, put spam bots in the game which will immediately get banned, and you along with them.

Ummm... I've seen at least seven humans who spam random accusations (in the party game mafia, random accursations is part of the game) in their first week of playing, doing things like keeping an accurate will of their mafia activities (like a framer's will of who he vsisited), being the first to say anything in dead chat and outing their mafia allies before realizing a medium was still alive. It's not like these guys were trolls (don't worry, they got better) but honestly how do you tell the difference between a troll and someone who doesn't even watch a turtorial?

Not exactly. If the user is just suspended for their actions the referring account won't be punished. The referring account will only be punished if the referred account is banned within those 5 trial games. Which is really hard to have happen.
