Do not share referral codes!
Hey guys,

Since the new referral system has been put in place, I've seen a couple people "willy nilly" putting their referral codes on here.
While I understand that it probably comes from a place of kindness, I am going to be keeping an eye out and removing those posts where possible.

You have to keep in mind that you are still responsible for what other people do on their referred account before they even buy the game, which makes you liable for a suspension or worse. So I highly recommend you keep those referral codes for people you actually know/trust.

Thanks.

Referring a friend, who turns out to be a moron, makes me be responsible? Yeah, you can go shove that idea somewhere deep and dark. I'd never put the fate of my own personal account into the hands of anyone, even a person i consider a friend. I dont imagine any of my current friends will ever get banned for being a ♥♥♥♥, but putting that kind of system into effect is just about the most moronic things you have ever done.

Why would you do that?
So if my friend gets banned I'm responsible for it?

Only if they get banned within the time-span of the 5 free games they play. And they actually have to get themselves banned not suspended, which will only happen if they're either a bot, pretending to be a bot, or show extreme hatespeech.

The point was this: You should never, ever be able to risk your account doing referals. You want more players? Cool. You want me to risk my account on it (regardless of how slim that chance would ever be)? Not happening, ever

The thing is that the main reason for the referral codes is not because we want more players. It's because of the massive complaints about how people can now no longer invite their friends to play with them, because the game switched to Pay to Play.

If the way the referral system is now set wasn't the case, people with bad intentions (like the ones with the massive amounts of bot accounts) would just keep referring new bot accounts without any trouble. Which effectively means that the move to Pay to Play would have been pointless.

If you don't trust your friends enough not to (pretend to) be bot accounts or extreme hatespeech spewers, then by all means, you're free not to refer anyone to try the game out and you can just ask them to buy the game instead if you wanna play with them (they can still "refer-a-friend" on the register form and refer you for rewards without any of the "risk" for you).

This system is to prevent players from posting their codes publicly. If they only give their codes to trusted friends it is very unlikely that they will be punished. For a user to be banned in 5 games they have to do really really terrible things. if they are gamethrowing or spamming, or anything like that it is unlikely they will be banned in 5 games. It is only going to affect the referring account if the user is banned, and this will really only happen if they user is botting, or is using hate speech.

this is a lie because you get banned for using a inappropiate name. and if you make one joke. so dont refer to a friend

Yeah, no... This guy is salty because he got banned for breaking the rules, despite having 3 prior suspensions and then getting banned.

Ah, gotcha.

Yeah, the referral codes are to try out the browser version of the game, not the Steam version, since the Steam version can only be aqcuired after purchasing it.

On the browser, they can register an account and fill in the referral code there, then they will have 5 games they can play for free to try out the game. Then, if they like it, they can purchase it on Steam and link the existing account they created.
