That said, I'm pretty glad my laptop is widescreen. :-P
The only reason I can think of is to preserve compatibility with older 4:3 monitors, but it's still dumb, because that way they'll alienate the bigger part of Steam community. Right now the most popular resolution on Steam is 1080p and 720p, freaking widescreen resolutions!
Only like 5% or less have 4:3 monitors.
The game is 16:9 HD just FYI :)
