Though it's much more interesting than the bible-rip-off The Neverhood had.
It was such a great read ! seeing it i instantly remember The Long Wall of Neverhood ! I once read it all !
but this one was actually much better than the Neverhood one !
It made me get into the feeling of the game and care for Tzurk Meva and P :D made Game much more enjoyable :D
and the Story was just Great :D
(P.S Spoiler : I kinda guessed Meva going to soul transfer into Armikrog when Tzurk Called her Armikrog the first time )
And yes The Marriage was cool xD
only 1 thing got me confused in the game was why Present-Time Tzurk looked so old and Meva still young lol they both must been quite old by that time lol
I know there's a poop joke at the start of the game, that one was okay, but letting kickstarters ruin a perfectly good story was a bit of a shame to me, but maybe I'm just no fun and fail to see the positive things about it.
Other than that - I loved the story. My friends and I took turns reading it to each other, it was awesome.
In truth, all Russian gamers wasn't happy to see this word in the game. So if some "joker" did this mess, even if he was Russian (he has American name, remember?), don't be angry on all Russians. It's kinda racist.
And besides, they might have mixed up the names in the credits so 'gavno' refers to Kustov Dmitry who is next in the list.
(Takie vot dela)
Hey guys. I'm the guy who suggested "gavno", along with 2 different portmanteaus of my kids names. They came back to me saying that they liked it best.
Claymation movies and games have tended to do poop jokes, and I had heard that Neverhood was quite popular in Russia so I was trying to insert a funny easter egg that only they would get. I didn't get to choose where though. (SkullMonkeys had a whole poop joke song!)
According to our communications, it was supposed to be a medicine or magic spell that was to be used in the game (claymation tends to do gross-out things like that. I envisioned Tommynaut having to smear the excrement of some ugly alien on himself as a last ditch to get out of a jam)
but I certainly didn't mean them to put in anything demeaning or racist! :O If that is the case with this word I sincerely apologize. I'm not Russian, and didn't know any particular history behind the word.
I would bet that the makers of the game didn't know either as I couldn't imagine them intentionally putting in something insensitive.
If I end up disliking the game, I'll just put "It is always good not to touch gavno, especially when it is cold." in the review. ^^;
PS
To stay on topic, I finally got to beat the game and read the wall. It felt bland and was ridden with spelling errors, misused words and Kickstarter references. With all the budget that they had, apparently it wasn't enough to hire a proofreader. Also, Tzurk turned out to be pretty much a serial murderer, even though I can't deny that in most of his killings he really didn't have much choice. He did NOT seem like a very likeable character. The couple came off as fairly egoistic also, knowing how many animals were sacrificed when they were trying to solve Meva's fertility problems.
I really wonder if Doug himself wrote the text. I'm a fan of some of his earlier graphic novels, and it's kinda hard to believe that he himself produced such a low quality work.
PPS
Never mind, I re-read the Hall of Records, and it was also ridden with typos. Childhood ruined. At least it was interesting in some places.
