How are the ratings at the end of the battle calculated?

I'd like to try and improve mine but am not sure which of the various things in the battle summary would do that.

If you mean the 1-3 red 'trisks' that are given at the end of each level, and that display next to the levels on the season maps, they're strictly based on number of turns needed to win the battle. The developer described it in more detail in this thread.
