Stuck on "Downloading mods..."
Hello,

Since today's hotfix I can't connect to the server I played on. I successfully download the world and then I'm stuck on downloading mods 0 of 2.

I've tried deleting Mods folder, verifying ME files, turning off antivirus, restarting Steam and computer, reinstalling the game; nothing helped so far. The server restart did not help either.

The server admin suggested that I should write a bug report. Is there anything else I could try?

There was a Steam problem yesterday and the Devs have pushed a hotfix today so make sure you got the update.

I'm pretty sure I've got it but how can I check?

You should see the game version in the first menu > Medieval Engineers Hotfix 0.6.1.53d12d

The server was updated.

It's not the correct hotfix version, is it?

Yes you have the hotfix :approve:

Ask the server admin about this, he should have a good answer or if the server is ''bugged'' he will know.

Well, I've just checked if I can connect to another modded server, and I can't - the same issue.

Is it worth mentioning that... when I tried to connect to the server after the hotfix was downloaded, my antivirus (Avast) found a problem in ME.exe. I disabled it next time to see if there was an issue but it didn't help.

One more thing... when I exit the game after unsuccessful mod download, it remain active until I kill the proces through task manager.

I will double check on my side, bbl :clock_time:

About AVAST = a lot of users had to add medievalengineers.exe and the Steam game folder to the antivirus exclusion list.

Dev message:

ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE
It has been reported by players that some anti-virus software (most common is AVAST) are blocking the game and prevent it from starting. This happens because the game’s code is encrypted which is why the anti-virus software are flagging it as a virus. This is false positive and the solution is to add the file to exceptions or mark it as a save file.

I just tested and took a few seconds to load 19 Mods :

Maybe you should add ME to AVAST exclusion list and also the ME appdata folder where all Mods and Saves goes, here :

Type in your explorer: %appdata%\MedievalEngineers
Go to the MedievalEngineers folder
C: users / your username / appdata / roaming / medievalengineers

That ^^ is where the Mods folder is so maybe you should add this one to the exclusion list, too.

Unfortunately it hasn't helped :-(

Anything else to try?

Btw. thanks for your quick responses.

Works fine on my side so maybe it's just a Steam temp problem in your country :riddle:

Play in a local world with your Fav Mods for today and try again later.
___________

IF tomorrow it's the same problem => Maybe try by uninstalling the game, when done > go delete ALL remaining ME files in the Steam folder and in appdata folder and reinstall the game.

:alert:
Keep your Saves and Blueprints folders in appdata if you don't want to lose any.

Unfortunately no, I can't even play local modded worlds.

I've tried uninstalling the game and removing all ME files, with no success. :steamsad:

Sorry Genhis, I really don't know why you can't :riddle: works fine on my side using Windows 10 Defender.

Follow #3 in the Devs Guide so a Dev can have a look it this.

See the Avast instructions on exclusions
https://support.avast.com/en-us/article/168/

You may also need to include your Steam downloads folder to ensure game updates proceed without interruptions.

After you have excluded the game from being scanned you should verify your game cache to ensure that all files are downloaded properly.
To verify your cache:
• In your steam library right click on the game and click properties.
• Go to the LOCAL FILES tab and click the VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME CACHE... button

It was indeed a strange anti-virus issue that occured only in this version. Exclusions, turning off anti-virus and verifying game integrity didn't help. However, I managed to fix it by activating Passive mode in Avast and starting a modded world. Then I could turn off the Passive mod and mods still download correctly.

Hopefully I'll never see it again. :D

Thank both of you for your help.
