Leveling ground in survival
Hi,

I played around in survival a bit since the last patch and by now I find the yet given features sufficient to invest some time and have some fun* buuuuuuut ... how the ♥♥♥♥ do I level ground in a not ridiculous looking or extreme time and space consuming way?

The only way I found was mining but more often then not I "open up" new z-levels instead of just flatening to terrain in front of me to the level of the terrain I'm standing on.

*EDIT: I was so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ proud after I got my first own cart consisting of 4 wheels and 3 large chest working.

Well done getting that cart! It's a surprisingly awesome feeling. :) I've run into the same problem with the ground leveling. Just when I think I've got it, then it bugs out and boom, there's a deep new pothole where there shouldn't be one.

The short answer is that right now there's no way in Survival. No precise terra-forming tools. The only thing you can do is pop over to Creative and shape the land how you want it. I do that from time to time. And I also use Creative to lay in dirt roads and "streams" etc. in my Survival world. I do hope Survival adds stuff like this soon.

Ah too bad but yes, I know the feeling with those potholes "Mhh ... the earth is clipping through my wall! *hackhack* Wonderful! *looks at the outise and begins to cry*"

Ok I guess in this case I will look for a nice spot in creative, flatten some terrain to start with and then switch to survival.

Some tool like a shovel or a simple caterpillar* would be nice.

*Not caterpillar like a bulldozer but like those old blade filled drum lawnmowers

Don't worry I think they are aware about this issue and a tool for that is essential in survival mod so I think it is just a question of time.

I think and hope so too because I tried to level a bit of a building place now in creative and those creative tools are waaayyy too finicky in handling and the change in terrain is way too chunky for me, I can't get anything done with them.

Life is feudal had a great way of leveling the ground, I hope KSH will put some real effort in the terrainshaping tools for survival.

Until then, ME is going back to the "lets see in a few mounth again" corner.

Well, apparently it's not for this week :) Maybe they think barbarian wave and sword are most important than creativity in survival mode...

I doubt they think it's more important, those things are just easier to implement currently. They are working on much bigger things than just the next weekly update. I'm sure they have project goals set for months in advance, and probably one of them is a voxel tool for survival,

I am sure too but actually this mod is too boring if you want to build big thing in my opinion. It is not this update that will make me want to replay the survival mod :(
I know everyone's different, but to me I think a Survival voxel tool (or a set of them) is a very big deal. Barbarian attacks are kind of fun. But if they're attacking me in a world that's too colorless for me really to care about, then it's hard to go all berserker on them. I've been playing with Barbarians off, and for the foreseeable future will prob do so. I hope we'll get Survival voxel stuff soon.

This is it. Combats are useless if you don't have a solid world at expand. But like i said before I have no fear about the future of the game. But for me the survival mod is actually not enjoyable unfortunately :(
If at least we've got procedural world we could start a game without being afraid to start a new game..

Its been a while, but this is top search result for leveling ground.

Under Weaving tree, Landscape Stake allows you to level ground.

ok, so... how do i level the ground in creative? i see the auto level thing in the G menu. but it seems to only want to do copper ore... are there instructions for leveling in creative anywhere? also i saw the bit about adding in a stream in creative. how does that work?

Hello Babbayega,

Open G screen and there is Voxel Hands section.
Then use [ and ] for selecting the voxel type you want to add (left mouse button) or remove (right mouse button).
