Heavy performance issues?
Hey.

I wear headphones most of the time I'm playing games.

Today i recognized a new noise while playing. After putting my headphones off, i realized it's my PC ... very busy cooling down my system.

I was irritated, because I'm only running ME. Nothing else. So I started my MSI Afterburner to check this out...

Well. My GPU is at 99% workload with a temperature of 75 C°

I'm a little bit shocked.

My System is using a GeForce GTX 1070 (EVGA Gaming FTW Series) with a i7 6400K processor and 32 GB of 3000 MHz RAM.

So what the hell is wrong here? If i play Witcher 3 on Ultra I don't get 99% workload.

I tried to reduce the Gaphic Settings to "Low" just for a test .. and workload is still at 86% ... thats ridicioulus O_o

Anyone any idea whats wrong here?

I allready played WoW and Witcher 3 today ... all fine, nothing strange.

Hey man. The simple answer is a lot of these survival games the game engine is designed to rely more on your processor than a typical triple A game would. You may also notice that your video resources are being used less than you'd expect. I'm not exactly sure why in survival games they require the resource useage to be balanced more to the CPU end, but it seems to be fairly universal. I know games like The Forest, Rust, Hurtworld, 7 Days to Die, etc are the same way.

All this being said it shouldn't really cause any permenant issues. You can work the living hell out of a CPU as long as it's not overheating. And really no CPU should overheat under any circumstances, even under severe overuse, if you have the appropriate cooling. CPU's are pretty beefy now a days and you really have to be pinching pennies on cooling to overheat them to the point of failure.

But he is saying his GPU, his video resources are on 99%. And you really don't want to grill a GTX 1070. Something is definitly wrong.

Have you tried rebooting your pc you could have had a file get stuck in a loop.
Edit
Just thought could also be a memory leak.

Hi Regicide, to compare with mine, I've use ''ASUS GPU Tweak''

http://i.imgur.com/h6qrZUb.jpg

My GPU temp is at 57 and GPU usage 99 % with 31 % VRAM used

hehe > it will always be like that for games in construction, so get used to it. :caster_wink:

It's the normal bugs that we have to report to help them, tho you can wait for other members to participate by sharing in the bug report section.

Regicide, I was about to tell you to check for dust, tho my tower is full of dust (I have to clean) but still have the GPU temp at 57 in game.

Maybe just rebooting the computer will fix.
Köbi May 12, 2017 @ 3:10pm
Check for dust II, that's what will get you.

I have 2 games very demanding, I will try to compare with Medieval Engineers.

Testing .... :clock_time:
Dan2D3D  [developer] May 12, 2017 @ 3:39pm
GPU temp 59, GPU usage 99 % in one of my demanding,
seems normal and I have NVIDIA 1050 Ti

test was JustCause3 :xplo:

Searching the NET about your GPU it seems that 75 is normal for the GeForce GTX 1070

You should be fine

Hey guys! Sry I was pretty busy.

75°C is still okay, I know. But I wasn't expect something like this on a game like ME. I mean I play SE, too. And I don't have any problems there. Even on Planets or during large battles with a lot of trash flying around.

And the only time where my GPU hit the 99% were by playing World of Warcraft on Max at everything (which turned out to be a problem with the old engine WoW is using, not a problem with my graphic card.)

But okay, if you say it's normal for survival/crafting games in developement. I'll try to make a Bug report, maybe there's really something wrong with the last patch. But before doing so I will try it again after rebooting tomorrow, just in case it's really just a loop problem.

Thanks for your answers!

I think it's because of your graphic card cause saying it's ME > why I have my GPU temp 57 !?

That's why imo it's the GeForce GTX 1070 normal temp set at 76.

When my GPU is at 99% workload, it's no wonder it gets hot. So the question why is it at 99% workload. Not why is it at 76°C, I think.

You could read my comments > I've already compare with my other demanding games and I got 99% GPU usage + Temp 50

>>JUstCause 3 => 99% GPU usage + Temp 50

Same in ME =>> 99% GPU usage + Temp 50
Same in Batman =>> 99% GPU usage + Temp 50

Search the NET to find more infos about your ''GeForce GTX 1070'' to know that 76 IS OK for it.
