I usually add one stone cube on the soil first to have a Bounding Box, then aim at this block to position my Blueprint.

In Survival, I could double-click on any blueprint but it would not "clamp" to the ground. No amount of rotation could get it turned to the correct orientation.
In Creative, the blueprints are aligned to the ground and plop down as advertised.
Here is what I do in survival to paste and align :
First thing to do in survival = hit Alt + F10 and enable "Creative"
Hit Esc to close the MM menu
★The first block goes =/+ 2/3 into the soil★
Find a Flat Area, add one stone cube 2/3 into the soil and do the following :
1- Open the Bp menu F10.
2- Double click the item and wait.
3- Ctrl + Mouse Wheel to move the Bp forward and backward.
4- Position the Blueprint with Q and E keys to rotate.
5- Hit the ''O'' key for free rotation and pasting.
6- Left Click to paste.
