How do you find ore in the ground?

Im doing the metal working research and it says there's ore in the ground and to dig for it. I've been sigging and looking around but have found nothing. What am i doing wrong

Hi when you do the ore quest it should tell you on the compas where the nearest ore vien is.

I thought about that but say nothing other then my bed and the 4 markers that are always there

You might of ran by one and completed the compass search and might not of seen it. Walk up a hillside and look down for ore loactions or pop into creative and fly over the spot you are in survival and investigate the ore places. X to fly Space to go up C key to go down
