Dedicated server only works in LAN <SOLVED>
HI all,

I just started playing Medieval Engineers and want to setup a dedicated server for me and my friends. But the dedicated server only works in LAN and not for the external players. I forwarded the port 27019 in my router.

I can see my server in the server list when I press join but my external friend doesn't see the server in the server list. I searched the forum and google but I'm not getting any real solutions here. Am I missing something. I there a option somewhere open dedicated server for the public or something?

Hello Excalibur,

can you host through DS other games ? It looks that you have issues with your firewall or some internet settings on your end.
If you create a multiplayer game, can your friends join you?
Did your friends try to join you through the steam friends? Just right click on you and click the join the game?
Also you can give them direct IP adress of your server and they will go to favorites servers tab on Steam, click on add new server, paste the IP adress there and it should appear in the favorites servers tab.

Let me know if anything worked for you and how it is with other games that you are hosting.

Hi kejn,

Thank ou for your reply.
These steps i already tried

- External joining a normal friends game works perfect
- Joining external with steam works perfect
- Direct ip connection with the external dedicated server doesn't work
- The dedicated server doesn't show external <wan>. in te lan works perfect
- Other dedicated server games like minecraft, rising world and empyrion works perfect

I think I tried everything but it still doesn't work :-(
anyone have any other ideas i'm mabey missing ?

Hi, I've added my Dedicated server computer IP to the DMZ in my home router, I know it's not recommended to do this but that is what I did and it works fine.

So it may be a home router config problem.

You could do a fast test > ''Direct connect'' :

1- Unplug the RJ45 wire > Computer to Router

2- Direct connect to your internet box without the Home router

3- Try the Dedic

from what i've seen, some game server code will make use of multiple ports for various reasons, it might not be showing up in the server list because the port its set to broadcast that info on could be blocked by the fire wall, as dan said switching the server to DMZ host is gonna fast lane it into working right, but there are security risks in doing so if your worried about network invasion. its not common but, we all know it happens.

i dont know if there is anything that can tell you what ports an application is trying to use so you can forward all those that apply or not, but otherwise if it cant be found on the web, a full list of ports would be useful for the games dedicated server software.

yeah looking at that its just the one port then. if people still arent seeing you after forwarding that port to the right IP theres probably something else in the way.

i'd bet money its windows firewall related >_> it causes nothin but trouble.

Hi all, thx so much. I disabled the windows firewall defender thing in windows 10 and my friend can connect from his home to the dedicated server. ;-) I'm so happy :-)
