If your hunger is going down fast, that may be a bug. Mine goes down very slowly. We have food all over the place in forests. If you pick berries from a bush, then press F a couple more times, you will also get roots. Foraging in a forest for about 1 minute usually gets you 20-30 pieces of food you can eat, which will keep you alive for a half hour of playing time.

But the game also wants to give you a bonus for cooking. So hit the ground with an axe 6 times, and collect some large stones. Then make a campfire. Some recipes are very simple but give you a large food bonus.

Keep an eye out in the grasslands for blue herb bushes. The blue herbs are important for the early cooking.

if its an emergency, just relog ;o
Some of the red berry bushes are just decorative. Search around a little more and you will find the ones that "light up" and let you press the F key. That will help you a lot because of both the berries and roots you get from them. Good luck!

can the roots be used in planting or any use? i normaly keep them on ground or drop if accidently pick
Roots are only used now for either eating raw, or as an ingredient in a lot of cooked foods.

Herbs grow wild in open grassy areas. They look like a tall weed with one stem. When ripe, the stem has a lot of pretty blue flowers. Herbs are a little rare, but I have always been able to find some. You should also be able to find pumpkins on the grass. They are MUCH bigger and easier to see. They give you back a lot of hunger, but they take away your stamina for a few seconds.

If you can't find these, or if your hunger is still going down, report it as a bug. They need to know about that! Good luck.

you only need a very very basic farm setup at which point food is pretty much insignificant as cabbages f.ex grows at a fairly decent rate.

cooked food shall atleast give full hunger by the fast time it decreases the game have become a infinite hunting food loop to me not anymore enjoyable after the hunger changes

Once you can craft crossbows and can hunt the deer effectively, the goulash recipe is great. Doesn't require herbs which have been hard to find for some people. Berries are all over the place in forested areas and you can grow cabbages. 1 goulash practically fills the hunger bar from empty.

I was also getting tired of stopping to collect food all the time, so I tried what other people have done... I just let myself starve to death. I respawn, loot my dead body, and keep on going. I hope once I get my garden up and running I won't have to starve to death every two days ;)
I'm still surprised at the difficulty some are having with staying fed. In any of my worlds, literally 30 seconds in a forest fills me up with 50-60 total roots, berries, and mushrooms. There's food everywhere, way too much. I wonder if there's a bug in hte game that is causing different people to experience such different things.

I'm not being glib, or trying to be obnoxious. It's just that my experience has been very different. Here, I started a brand new world, ran to the nearest forest, and this is what I got in 30 seconds:

Counting up roots, berries, and mushrooms and it's nearly 50 food items in 30 seconds. That'll keep you alive for ages.

Are we having different game experiences?

At first I find plenty of food, but as I stay a while in one spot I seem to have more difficulty getting food. Maybe it doesn't respawn fast enough? Maybe I am too slow at building up my homestead? My nearby resources dwindle away until I spend too much time looking for things. And then to unlock gourmet cooking, I have to save up a lot of my food instead of being able to eat it.

Perhaps you know this: Do the berries grow back faster if you leave the roots behind? or does leaving roots behind hinder the respawning process? Hmmm...
