Why is player count going down?

I apologize if this question has an obvious answer, but I am a very casual player who dosen't keep up with Dirty Bomb.
So out of morbid curiosity and boredom, I checked the steam charts and the daily player base fell to an all time low (currently down to 679 as I'm typing this), so whats up? I really like this game and am shocked to see this, if someone could explain or at least tell me if its just a coincedence, I'd be greatful.

it's the middle of the night/early morning in the most active regions

if your question is about player retention, that's a whole different can of worms

I don't know where you come from but in some parts of europe it is early in the morning. Maybe try out another time. Europe players usually play in the afternoon

I think some people love to listen to stereotypes,which in that case "free to play games are trash"
and it is not true at all.
TF2,Dota,LOL and Warframe are free and bunch of people are playing them.
If people will just stop follow this dumb stereotype,this game will maybe be full of players

before they need to fix the game and start doing some real update till that day nothing is gonna happen this game has terrible perfomance trash netcode and bugs that not even the devs want to fix so...

Just read any opinion post in the discussions. Devs keep putting out new content that is broken and don't fix the old problems, so veterans leave. And as for new players the only people who stick around are the ones who really like the core gameplay. Why play this F2P that is hard to love, when there's plenty of other F2P games that are much more friendly.

ranked queue time is pretty bad and balance although they are working on it is still in the bin. That combined with not a lot of content (although I don't like the argument too much considering LoL, Dota, CSGO, and even newer games like PUBG only have a few game modes) makes people leave the game. The next ranked season probably gets some of them back though. At peak times it is still playable even.

Its a common problem with nichè games like dirty bomb.
Skill needed to succeed is very demanding and many new players get obliterated by veterans and leave the game after a couple of hours
