Pugstorm vs Chucklefish. This game is going to have a toxic community and bad support.
On one hand I'm glad to see the name Chucklefish, at least there will be modding.
On the other hand. Pugstorm hasn't even released a proper finished product with their last game Core Keeper, and has shown time and again that they refuse to listen to their fan-base.

Because of this Core keeper will never be a headline game like the games it is trying to imitate.
Terraria and Stardew valley.
Two BIG games that have been developed unto perfection - and then still supported for many years afterward.

Core keeper will NEVER reach this legendary status.
Kyora will be much the same.

Even Starbound - one of Chucklefish's bigger regrets, had a dedicated server during early access, that was better - more stable than the flimsy thing Core keeper was released with.

(And yes, I am very much aware starbound has a very positive rating on steam. That does not take away it's absolutely HORRIBLE modding engine, and them praising one of the most toxic of all mod makers as some sort of co-creator for the game. With a pile of fans that somehow have been brainwashed into thinking his actions are in any way good for the game... But that is another story for another day. Just stay clear of the fracking world related mods.)

So, Core keeper - dedicated server.
Never became stable enough to support 2+ players in an endless world.
It would simply end up crashing every few hours or more after having spent some time exploring.
The devs claim one thing, the players another.
Never got "fixed" properly.

Instead, the infinite this game was advertised to have. What players were sold. What players loved. This infinite world was reduced to a finite world. And a small one at that, just to reduce the maximum memory footprint that the game could have - as a cheap workaround rather than fixing the actual problem.

So that the devs could move on to this new game.

Who knows, the devs are "probably" not at fault her, but pugstorm is.
Core keeper 1.0 is a cheap fix after early access with a "finished" label slapped onto it.

Sadly, the 1.0 version of the game is anything but finished.
- Terrible modding support.
- Two skills added like an afterthought (summoning and sorcery) with barely any depth.
- A few bosses moved around the progress line for no reason other than to annoy players.
- Core issues not fixed, but generally ignored.

So,
Kyora?

I'll definitely keep an eye on it.
Why? Because I love pixel art style games, and I've got hundreds of hours in Terraria.
It's the kind of game I would enjoy.

But both pugstorm and chucklefish have long since left a bad taste in my mouth, and I really do not have high hopes for this team-up.
If anything I fear it.

It's just going to suck, and they're still somehow going to get my money.
And they will laugh, and they will move on to another game before abandoning this one.

And, yet, people love Core Keeper and it's very successful.

Maybe you just have bad taste.

Aye, core keeper is fun.
I've got plenty of hours into it.

Taste is an ill word for a finer view of the details.

Terraria is good, Core keeper is good - but one shall not mention those in the same line without knowing that Terraria is a million times BETTER in terms of development and refinement.

Core keeper lacks that refinement, and the devs simply do not care, or are not given the time to do what needs doing to it.

If it were a million times better, wouldn't you have a million times more hours of playing it?

You completely missed OP's point, lol.

I love Core Keeper, but the game has released nothing of valor after release. The game was gimped to a finite world, just about 1 or 2 days before 1.0 release, under the promise of the change being made, for the upcoming biome expansion, that now we know, are not coming soon.

A lot of, if not red, yellow flags are showing.

1. The game follows the art style of Starbound more than Pugstorm's style. Just watch their other released game, and you'll see it is closer to what CK is.

2. Why the sudden publisher change, and most of all, why Cucklefish?

3. Chucklefish has such a bad rep now, that I'm amazed that Pugstorm is even willing to be related to them.

4. Core Keeper's been out as a full released game for less than 6 months, there are a lot of stuff that needs fixing or be reworked. But Devs are just resting on their laurels because of the modders pretty much are doing the devs job with all their useful mods.

5. Pugstorm always said they were a kinda small team, and that was the reason of some stuff taking time to be added or fixed, but now all of a sudden they can split in 2 their dev team? And if Kyora developing isn't going to take away CK's developing time, why is nothing being done to add to the game QoL stuff that has been asked since the E.A. period?

I'm not doubting Pugstorm's ability to develop a good game, but it is obvious that a lot of people, me included, don't trust Cuchklefish at all.

This was interesting to know. At least it was not just random name calling. I hope the intentions are good for this game.

Doesn't it seem kind of ridiculous to use a game that has 38k reviews, 92% positive, as an example of what NOT to do?? Either you love it or you don't. It sure seems that you don't.

Making the world finite is the only way to get Core Keeper to consoles, specifically the Nintendo Switch. Endless biomes with no surprises, secrets and easter eggs to discover are boring.

Chucklefish is a parasite of a company that really should be stomped on whenever possible, gonna be honest. Starbound likely only has modding BECAUSE of the "Paid in Exposure(TM)" Interns :V

Most of the games they have DONT have modding either i believe, and if i remember right their general attitude about Stardew Valley (alongside the absolutely apocalyptic reputation Chucklefish has, due to Starbound) is WHY ConcernedApe dumped them as quickly as possible/went independent?

Terraria - Been in development far longer than Corekeeper.

Comparing the two is stupidity at its ifnest.
I'm not putting a dime into this game just because the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ known as Chucklefish are associated with it.

As if chucklef*** listened to their fan-bases lmao, they banned people left and right on starbound forums.
