Option to buy a vacant house in Joppa
I know people have talked a bit about 'owning' or 'building' a house or base.

I really think it would be a neat option to be able to purchase a safehouse in various parts of the world. I know I can leave stuff and it will be untouched, but I would like to feel invested and 'own' a piece of something in Qud.

Make it super expensive. Once you buy it, you get a key to the door (the door would then change to a locked one).

You could have a safehouse in Joppa, Kyakuya(sp?), and maybe even the Stilt. Could be really cool.

Maybe one of the houses is only gettable through a quest.

Thoughts?

"Make it super expensive" -- why? There are litterally five huts in Joppa, I doubt that real estate in Joppa is that valuable. :D

Add an option to buy a plot of land and build a hut out of severed limbs of fallen enemies :D

So I think building has been ruled out, as far as what I've read. I get the vibe they just don't want to go that route, and I kind of agree.

As far as why super expensive? Well it doesn't have to be, of course, but I thought it would just be like making a cake in Minecraft - not something you need to do by any means, but definately a status symbol and a sense of achievement.

I just occupy the empty house near Tam's house, put in a chest, a plastic tree and a folding chair -- and bam, feels like just home :D

We won't be doing buildng/farming/etc for 1.0; maybe a DLC someday? Farmsteads of Qud! Nothing's impossible, but not on the roadmap for before early access release, and can't promise anything for the future. It's often requested though.

Just make the house next to Tam's a bit bigger :SBHorse:

Isn't there a wall creating artifact that makes up to 9 foamcrete walls? You can expand the hut that way, just don't let them see you knocking out walls though.

That isn't such a bad idea, actually.

And instead of farming -- how about an option to beguile a plant creature, take it to Joppa, put it on a chain and then periodically dismember its appendages (i.e. fruits/vegetables), and then have it regenerate them, rinse, repeat, laught maniacally :D

Farming: Caves of Qud style! :D

please no meaningless dollhouse. Even the fortress in pillars of eternity--which had its own lore, lots to explore, etc.--was a super boring upkeep-fest with repetitive and unimaginative quests. Maybe could be done well, but I haven't seen it in an rpg (that I can recall)

It really doesn't have to do nothing - purely for fun. I always furnish the empty hut in Joppa - a chest, desk, plant, chair, somking pipe and, since the last update, a bedroll. Not that it does anything at all, it's just fun thing to do. And if there was any interactivity to that - cool why not?

Its kinda like naming your companions - a waste of time, but a Snapjaw-killing dog named Lassie is cooler than just a Snapjaw-killing dog.

That's the house I always use! It's my house! Get out of it.

You can have the houses north of Argyve.

(Actually, I use the houses north of Argyve to house the schematic drafters I kidnap from the Six-Day Stilt using Domination... Drop a recoiler, dominate them, make them use the recoiler and then walk to the house where you want them to stay, bam. You now have a new schematic merchant in Joppa where they're easy to reach.)

This is my sentiment, exactly. In fact I don't really want any story to really revolve around it or its existance.

Alter Elder's speech on completion of girshling quest, make him "gift" player one of the empty houses.
Problem solved, have fun. :D

Or imagine it up. That is somewhat easier to implement.

Anyway, what particular things you want to see changed in the game on the matter, out of curiosity?

I think this is a reasonable, and fun, solution. I think it would be cool if he gave you a key, and the door changed to one that required that key. But that would do it. Good idea.

I've been toying around with portable walls & wish to build a good house. Definitely requires precision, and aiming the objects w/wish is difficult sometimes. I.E you will need to put down walls only after I furnish the place where I want stuff, otherwise walls are in my way for wish positioning.

Doors, bronze braziers, torch sconces, water weeps, honey weeps, wine weeps, plastic trees, starapple trees, portable walls = foamcrete..

Smashed down the two houses next to Tam's in Joppa and built myself a dang mansion.. but then the tilesets for the dirt road overlayed on top of one of the weeps after a reload and I ragequit.

I'm almost wondering if mouse targeting can be used with wish? Would make things easier.
