1.0 - Joppa stuck forever thawing a few hours in
I started a new role play run for 1.0 with starting village of Joppa. Loading into Joppa was super slow whenever I recoiled back, but after getting to around Bethesda Susa or so trying to get back to Joppa by any means leaves me thawing infinitely. I’ve left it sitting for five minutes or so.

Not sure about anything unusual I did - I have a chest with stuff in it but I only have a couple dozen things in it. I have a few mods enabled but I think most of them shouldn’t cause any save file changes except the Roomba one (except I don’t have any in Joppa and other places that do are fine).

Elder Irudad(sp?) in Joppa was a fish? All the other characters were what they usually were but… yeah he was a pink fish. Possibly unrelated. I thought it might be an intentional change for 1.0 to let him be any species like other elders but maybe not.

I can progress fine so far but I’m worried about it happening to Grit Gate or something.

Other info: I’m playing on a Steam Deck

If you send the saved game folder to support@freeholdgames.com we can take a look.

Sent. May take some time - rather large save file.

I did try to poke through the dbs myself but I don’t know how to read the blobs and didn’t see instructions in the modding guide for how to deserialize them.

this! I logged just to report this but i found it reported.

In my case, it all started after i put a lot of stuff in chest. Initially i had my stuff in Argyve's place but then i put them in a chest of mine near recoil spot. After i put a lot in the chest, saving took longer (not tooo much stuff though) i was level 12.
After the symptom of saving taking longer, next time i go into an expedition the game hangs on thawning when i tried to recoil back. In my case i really left it for a while and then it loads up with the village reset and my stuff gone.

I continued the game as level 12, with all my stuff gone, this time i only put stuff in Argyve's place, in his "chest" furniture. By level 26 it happened again. Saving took longer, i head out, can't recoil back.
The village resets after a very long thawing time, stuff is gone.
checking the logs i get out of memory when thawing.
(tried with no antivirus, as admin, removed "read only".(was trying things)
I walked back to the village, same.

I did hear about other people mentioning that the village resets as well.

edit: the symptom of saving taking longer happens as soon as you unload everything you have into the chest.
edit#2: i also sent the save, but i also have a save i copied right before i left for exploring, because i feared it would happen again. That save is still in joppa when i filled chest and saving took longer tell me if you want it.

i loaded up the save when i was still in the village and when the slow saving already started and tried 209.35 with it. I can confirm that the saving time reverted to normal.

If it deteriorates to the point you can no longer load the village sadly the stuff is gone.
But it looks like the issue is fixed for new saves or ones you can still click on chest.

FWIW I also continue to have a similar issue with the latest version. For me it's Grit Gate. Games saved there load fine and transitioning in and out of it isn't an issue, but if the game has to unthaw the zone quickly (e.g. if I recoil there from somewhere else) it takes 30-60 seconds to unthaw - I don't think I've ever seen it take even 5 seconds previously.

Once it does load, everything is normal. I do have several containers and objects that I'm using for storage, although I don't think any individual one has more than 15-20 objects - not sure if that's enough to be considered a problem.

(Also using several mods, but nothing that should affect Grit Gate as a location, or the way storage or containers work.)
