[Solved} Bug or unclear interaction: Boulder blocking stairs

The "items are on the stairs" interactions needs improvement / rework imo. If you fight some bethesda trolls on the stairwell they will throw a large boulder blocking the lower stairs. There is no way to interact with this lower boulder from the top floor. Normally you can just "Get" the boulder then drop it to move it out of the way but because its in a different map you cant. They only work around that I know of is phasing through it then you are free to clear it from the lower floor.

Is this intended behavior? Is there some way to interact with the large boulder from the top floor?

You can force attack down the stairs. If you have a pickaxe equipped or some other option that grants you the digging ability (and it is turned on), (edit: I was thinking about the burrowing claws toggle) normal movement into the direction of a blocking object (edit: seems this is not longer the case for boulders) will automatically make an attack against it. With a standard pickaxe the boulders dropped as cragmensch corpses are quickly destroyed.

Mafeo (first person you have access to in Grit Gate) is guaranteed to sell you a pickaxe. Realistically speaking it's probably quite hard to pull a boulder through some stair case, but that matters little.

I didnt know about the pickaxe being able to dig through a lower floor. This seems perfectly reasonable then. Solved.

I did not mean it can dig "through the floor" though. It just attacks walls etc. you are trying to move on, which includes boulders on stairs. With "blocking object" I really just mean stuff like walls, boulders, furniture etc. and not floors.

It doesnt seem to be able to clear the boulder from the stairs. I click on dig and it only digs a pth to the top of the stairs, cannot dig down that I can tell.

Don't use the dig function, that only works in the XY part of the screen, it can't do the Z axis. You have to FORCE ATTACK down (or up) the stairs while wielding the pickaxe in you dominant hand (I put it in caps 'cuz zeebs already mentioned that in his first post).

If you have digging capabilities (pickaxe equipped, digging claws etc. ) there is a dig toggle and as long as that is set to "on" (edit: only burrowing claws have that toggle) you only have to move and it will attack automatically. The force attack stuff is only important if you wanna attack with normal weapons (edit: or dig boulders now it seems) and do not have dig and will likely take super long, since most blocking objects harder than shale are pretty high in AV.

Huh, I only use the dig toggle when I click to dig to the far side of a zone (why bother holding down movement keys then!), I never considered that it automatically digs when you move since when wielding digging stuff your attack digs through walls anyway.

Seems I remembered how burrowing claws work and not the pickaxe. Those have a toogle.

It seems they also changed the digging logic some patches ago. I tried 204.52 (random choice) and in that version you dig through boulder when trying to move onto them (even over levels). That is not the case anymore in the recent stable version 204.103. Now you need to do force attack boulders to dig through them.

I tested the beta and it seems force attacking over levels does not work anymore (or need different keys?). This might simply be a beta issue, so the OP is not solved and specific to the beta. Could also make a new thread/ticket for not being able to force attack over levels in the beta I guess.

To be able to continue playing, you can wish for "godown:1" for now.
