Force bubble not working properly (force bracelet)

I lost a Level 37 character in the asphalt mines after being surrounded by three magma crabs. I went to use my force bracelet to push them all back and I received these two messages in the log:

:: A force bubble pops into being around you!
:: The force bubble snaps off.

I immediately died and was really confused as to what happened. I checked to see if I had my ontological anchor equipped and activated, but I didn't even have it equipped. Normality gas is not present. The force bracelet had a used nuclear cell which was more than enough for a few rounds.

I went ahead and wished for god mode to see wtf was going on and I received those same two messages each time I used the force bracelet (and it never visibly turned on from what I could see). I tried activating it via the skills menu and the equipped items menu but the results were the same for each. I experimented by changing the used nuclear cell on the bracelet to a full one. Suddenly the force bracelet popped on and stayed on, but then I went to turn it off and I received the following two messages in the log:

:: The force bubble snaps off.
:: The force bubble pops into being around you!

Something is bugged with the force bracelet because this behavior is not normal, and there's no in-game reason for the state of the force bracelet to toggle on/off like this. I had just booted the game up after this most recent Friday update and did not have any issues prior to this patch. This run had a lot of time invested in it...
