Killed by a Dawnglider
Not sure if this is a bug but when it happened to me it made absolutely no sense so I save-scummed to reproduce it and was able to. How it happened:

Walking around in the salt desert and came across a few dawngliders. Having ~70 hp I get hurt by their fire breath, and flee. First time, I was low in HP (20 or so) and moved off screen far enough away that if the remaining dawnglider followed me it couldn't one-shot me with it's breath. I hit W-5 to heal a bit and the death message "Killed by a dawnglider" popped up - from what I could see the dawnglider wasn't even on the map and there were no red fire plumes on the screen that I would expect to see if I was roasted to death.

It happened again under similar circumstances, although I think I was just walking normally (not using W-5) - it seems to happen when I engage them, flee and change maps.

If you have a save that can reproduce it, sending it to support@freeholdgames.com would be super helpful!

I'll take a look when I get home tonight - I'm 99% sure the save is still in the same area where it happened. If so and I'm able to reproduce it again I'll outline clearer steps.

PS LOVE your game!

I'd like to note something that might be related to this: I was fighting dawngliders in a cave myself and was hopping between levels to essentially hit-and-run them. After one of the times I got hit by their fire breath, I went back up to rest and heal. Initially I was getting messages along the lines of "you take 1 damage from the dawnglider's fire breath!", but suddenly, the message changed - the new message being something like "the dawnglider hits you for 1 damage", as if it was hitting me in melee, even though there were no dawngliders on the level I was on at the time (confirmed via Clairvoyance), nor was I even standing on the stairs.

I can't send a save to reproduce this since all those dawngliders are dead by now. I'm just hoping that maybe this clue will help track down the bug.

That sounds like this issue. Since the original poster was just walking around in a desert, there most likely wasn't a generated underground level, so it is probably unrelated to this topic. It is listed as fixed in the changelog for March 17.

Sorry for the false alarm - I tried to reproduce a number of times to no avail. I don't think it is a mysterious invisible dawnglider bug - my suspicion is that when 'w'aiting it didn't pull me out despite having full visibility of the map, and being in the center of the map so they couldn't zone in and flame me.
