when i said "impossible", i just meant "impossible right now, with the low level character i have".
I feel like a starter quest in the "noob" area shouldn't throw stuff like this at a player, but . .it's a learning experience, and i escaped the deathtrap, so no real harm was done.
It just feels cheap when i can suddenly be thrown into an unwinnable situation through no fault of my own, but then, that goes with the territory, if i play roguelikes, that's gonna happen.
i'm not bashing the game, especially since it's full of "cheat" options in the debug menu and i can choose to enable "checkpoints" from the character creation.
i've been playing classic permadeth, but that's my choice. It wasn't forced upon me.
I love how accessible this game is.
The waterlogged tunnel, 4 strata deep, leads directly from Joppa to Red Rock, no digging required. There is a free pickaxe in the tunnel anyway, though, along with another goodie.
All you have to do is autoexplore in Joppa and the opening will become visible.
so, you have to descend to strata 4 to find the path?
every time i've gone in there in the past, i git hopelessly lost and eventually come across a room with some enemy way out of my league and i die, but i always stayed on strata 1.
i just hit level 12 on this character and i bought another new mutation and got burrowing claws (with a bonus limb included), so i can just dig through that way. .
also have 73 cold resistance now, but i don't want to risk that cry chanber, especially now that i can just dig there
Indeed the underground has much more dangerous enemies than Red Rock has. If you start in Joppa and instantly go down that way, you can basically be killed in 2 turns by a slugsnout from the shadows.
