is there a actual use for the deploy turrets skill?
aside from getting a free jacked mod from disarming your own weapon from it is there a actual use for it?

I mean... it creates a friendly turret, which is more beneficial than a weapon just sitting in your inventory.

But I've been almost exclusively using it for the jacked mod, yeah. For some reason that data disc is absurdly rare, so the skill is often the only way to mod weapons to be jacked.

I use them for a specific scenario in which defending a location is the main goal.

They can be set up next to wired (or powered) walls and they'll draw power from the "grid" which lets you bypass the energy cell requirement. There are ways to increase the number of power-generating tiles in a location, too, such as with the 3D-cobblers. The wall behind Yla Haj, with the wire coming out, actually produces power like a fusion generator does. Cobble a few of those down (or replace every non-wired wall with them) and you can end up with tens of thousands of power being generated on a map.

Once they're set up, you can trade them equipment, like armour and artefacts. A few nanon freeze-rays, each wearing a jacked and overloaded thermocask, especially where they're all modded to be electromagnetically shielded, will send limbs flying all over, and the enemies will quickly be frozen. If you've accumulated a bunch of equipment that's otherwise collecting dust, like gloves and helmets, they'll wear those too. Point-defence drones do a lot of work for turrets

It's useful for securing valuable areas in the Rainbow Wood if you hate fighting massive numbers of Soupy Sludges. Put down a firing line of turrets and give them radio-powered cells, they'll destroy all of the sludges and keep them away from you and any water/wine/cider weeps.

It can pretty much be used as an "kill this boss encounter for me" skill. I am not sure what should not be useful on a skill that lets you create a kind of limitless amount of followers. I do think it needs some changes on how they work though. That you are getting free mods of ammunition from them makes no sense.

I had a particular fight late game where I went "Oh no! these endlessly spawning smaller enemies are taking my attention away from the larger enemy with thousands of hp! I'll never be able to kill them if I'm too focused on surviving!"

Then I remembered I've had turret skill for the whole game and tinkered up some eigenrifles. it worked flawlessly. probably good for snailmothers too, I guess. Basically, if any fight is going on way longer than it should, turrets are great.

I don't think you can just win any fight with them though, turrets are really fragile. those turrets did end up getting smashed, they just thinned the horde first.
