Also make sure that the top bar still says "Red Rock", since adjacent zone do not belong to it anymore and are the waterlogged tunnels or just some random marsh underground, which is not related to the quest.
So you were basically looking for a spider that is no simple cave spiders and sounds pretty "unknown".
The description of the defanged girshlings is "Star orchid saliva pools in the cavities where its fangs used to be and drips onto pallid leg-things. It shudders in the capture of some pristine ecstasy lost to space and time, and it lets out a proud and piercing whine."
which very much sounds like they look pretty alien to your character and even though your characters does not for sure know that those might have been it, they seemed very much out of place between all those mostly normal animal/mutated animal creatures out there. They could have maybe left out the quest step about finding them and just let the players bring back all spider like corpses the find, but that would have been pretty annoying, so you just get a quest step success to ease you in. Since it is the first Quest in the game, that is probably a nice thing to do.
In theory the quest is also no crucial and can be skipped.
