The hidden achievements might hint at a few of the possible endings. You have to go to Global achievement stats and click to reveal spoilers, though.
SPOILER: One ending, I didn't talk to Barathrum properly on the ascent, so I didn't even get the lore dump, then I just accidentally killed Resheph and went back to earth with nothing else to do. The next ending, I got the lore dump and left in the spaceship after looking around for things to do. Not much better than the first ending in terms of satisfaction.
I'm thinking there must be a proper ending that involves speaking with Resheph, but I can't figure out how to open the casket without destroying his core. Otherwise, these endings kind of suck. No more Templar, no Ptoh, no coven, just the ramblings of a senile Urshiib and then a game over screen after looking around an old space port. Not really worth the wait IMO.
Someone let me know if they figure out the real ending.
I think these were broken on my first try and I just ignored them on the second. Peak game design is letting clueless players miss the entire ending and then permanently delete their save file.
Yeah, that was... something, i was kinda miffed i had to just replace my save every time i ascended (i had to watch the long ass acension scene sooo many times .-.), wouldve been nice if the game made an automatic backup literally the moment before you use the golem to ascend.
I agree with the speaker above that the endings are somewhat disappointing. The location itself is beautiful, eerie and hauntingly quiet, I really liked it, even if it's much smaller than the overmap makes it seem at first. The post credit scene is kind of cute, too, but the whole Resheph final chamber thing feels a tad hollow. Another 'harvesting/resetting' sentience trope all over again...?
What especially feels glaringly missing is Ptoh. From what I know of Qud lore - maybe it's been my head canon all along? - this world was basically shaped by Ptoh being somewhere on it, the entire plot hinges on the darkling being. Psionics likely exist - at least in the way they do - because of Ptoh; True Kin are Aristocrats because they can't be mutated into psionics, which are Ptoh's influence; the injuction in the first place was because of Ptoh; even the Templar are, likely, a bastardized, corrupted version of early groups meant to contain Ptoh on the planet - at the very least, if Ptoh was more involved in the plot, it would make more sense for them to attack the Spindle ascension project with such zeal. Resheph's reference to the 'noosphere' not being up to snuff by Coven standards and requiring a reset does not seem to refer to Ptoh, either. I really expected some sort of resolution of this cosmic conflict between Coven and Ptoh for 1.0, but no.
I would hope that maybe carrying the Prism would change something, but haven't checked it out yet. I did try to spawn it in the last chamber with the wish command, but maybe that's not it.
That being said, I'm glad with 1.0 being out, but, c'mon, where's our darkling bird-lovin' eldritch beaut at...?
Edit: Oh, also: what is there to do in the Star Orchid temple? There's some kind of a tree-being there, but they do not seem to do or say anything substantial. Also, I tried using a Fix-it Spray Foam on the broken ?portal generator? there. It didn't work (but removed the [broken] status).
I agree, I wish there was more on Ptoh. FYI, true kin CAN be mutated into psionics with the gamma moth. And there are far too many of those buggers deep underground.
