Raising Indrix

I cannot find the village at all.

I went one screen South of Kyakukya, I followed the river due East. It went on and on till it ended at the lair of a legendary boar. This lair is 6 overmap squares away from the village.

I went one screen up from the lair, and went back West, then i went 2 screens South of Kyakukya, and went East.

I have found 4 different weeps, 2 goat villages, 2 forgotten ruins, and 2 dromad caravans. But no quest objective.

What am I doing wrong?

OK I found it. It turns out that one of the river branches went 3 screens North where the smoke and wild eyed merchant appeared. One screen north of that was the village. I guess I didn't think that it would deviate from directly east so much.

If Indrix told you that it's South (it's not always like that) and you followed it you did exactly what you were supposed to do. Maybe the river was close to the screen border at some point and that made it unclear where it was flowing and you followed a different one on the next screen.

Did you get to a screen with smoke coming up at all? Or a part full of blood and special corpses?

Indrix says: Just south of the village, there is a river that runs an eastwardly course into the jungle"

There are a couple of spots were the river is at the boarder of the screen. I did go up and down a few screen near them but found nothing.

The wiki mentions the burned village and bloody water, I have found neither.

Is it usually so far away from Kyakukya?

I have not done it a ton of times but I'd say a bit more than 6 is realistic until you see the smoke, but you said the river already ended at the lair. The river should lead you fully to mammon and when you enter the screen, you also get a message that you found the lair (even though there might be some reasons to not find mammon there, like space-time vortices).
