Thanks man, googling Dragon Crystal made me find Fatal Labyrinth. I've been looking for the name of that game for 20 years, played it tons on my Genesis.
Could have asked, I'd have gladly pointed you to the electronic time capsule.
ADOM - cause it's my first one *blush*
Cataclysm - it's just too customizeable/random not to try over and over ;)
DoomRL - cause I do love me a good Doom mood
NeoScavenger - that mix of graphical inventory management and proper crafting with RL suspense is just too good
Broken Bottle - small, simple, free game, but the mood/theme is phenomenal. A must-try for all post-apocalyptic fans out there.
AuroraRL and Prospector - cause the feeling of exploring the space, one planet at a time, has never been done better in any game ever, triple A or otherwise.
Check out "Adam Taylor" in the monster memory (hit &). That's me. :)
Nethack, a great classic.
Sword of the Stars: The Pit. It's a fun sci-fi roguelike. Though I'm not a huge fan on the item degrading stuff. :p
Tales of Maj'Eyal. Another great roguelike with tons of depth.
It's just an amazing game and it's making me love the genre. I'd love to try more, so I'm using you guys to find out more roguelikes. Soo...thanks to everyone!
For now, the other roguelike that I'm playing is Dungeons of Dredmor, but I dunno if that counts.
Also, I'm terribly fascinated by games with permadeath and roguelites in general.
I like Sil's straightforward mission (it's more traditional, and based off Moria/Angband, but holds more true to Tolkien's mythology), and appreciate its ASCII graphics quite a bit. DCSS has a lot of options, but hasn't been grabbing me as much as Sil. I think it's becuase I can get a bit futher in Sil than in DCSS. There's a lot to explore in it though.
I tried ADOM but found the dungeon layouts to be quite boring. There's a lot to do in the game but it didn't grab me at all. It could be that I'm still a novice, but so many straight corridors with small rooms didn't really make me care about the dungeon.
So far CoQ, Cataclysm DDA, and Sil are my favorites.
While playing Qud, I miss a lot of the interface features from DCSS - the stable view, the targeting interface, the waypoints, the pathfinding, the auto-explore (doesn't seem to work quite as well in CoQ yet), the searchable stacks/stashes of items if your character doesn't have amnesia. I don't miss picking up harmful mutations mid-game, though!
