Reef Hermit = Cheese
Aren't these guys a little tooo easy for what they can give you? It's like every time you see one you just pop them open like a pinata and run away with multiple high tech items... They don't put up much of a fight either...

It's not even cheesing, you can smack them down in a fair fight no gimmicks from as early as level 10, maybe even lower. They're weak as hell for carrying around highest tier range weapons and antimatter cells.

The biggest threat of hunting reef hermits is, as always, tongue tyrants existing lol.

One time I had a historical site with trash abbots and reef hermits and every floor I had to recoil home cuz I was flush with trinkets lol.

They are neutral by default though and there are other neutral NPCs with "good" items (though Reef Hermits top them a lot), so I guess there is also the moral decission. They can occasionally wear stuff that can be dangerous though. I definitely ran into graverobbers with nukes and would think the Reef Hermits can carry those too.

Kaleidoslugs are super easy too and can give you really good gear (though rarely) and there are multiple other things in the Reefs that feel rather easy and can be around really good stuff. I think the Reef is more designed as a "somewhat easy loot area with occasional really dangerous stuff mixed in. Just to surprise you when it comes up". You never know when there is a Galgal lurking around the corner behind a Reef Hermit and humanoids running around there definitely need some kind of high tier gear to defend themselves.

Perhaps I am a sociopath, but I have never ever had any moral dilemmas over killing non-legendaries.

If they got the loots I do a shoots.

In one game i found historic site in Palladium Reef where every enemy was a slynth equipped with some T3 artifacts. Needless to say it was a little goldmiine

Had that one once, Slynth do love their anti grav boots for whatever reason lol.

Had one in the Moonstair with Slynth. Probably got a few fozen of 8bits out of it with all those phase cannons etc they had. Humanoid sultan cults sites are really the best loot wise (though robots can come close if you can decapitate).

Hermits don't feel like that big of pushovers, especially since they can use that strong gear and have a pretty decent amount of health. Ran into two today a little over lvl 20, they were giving me a decent fight.

Yeah good points, maybe morality would work if there were some kind of karma system but in a world as chaotic as qud I think the legendary spawns are a fair representation of this. I have not yet been nuked by a reef hermit but I know that's gonna get me one day, as for the reef in general, it's a super fun zone and feels pretty balanced, it's just this one stinky tasty cheese.

They're very glass cannon, they have pretty low defensive stats and carry mostly firearms, get close enough to one and they'll just try to melee anyway... Maybe it's a little easier for melee characters than doing a shootout with them.
