The New Chimera
We enter into a new age of Qud where 16-limbed abominations are not just a distinct possibility, but possibly "the meta", whatever that means for Qud.

Since the update notes say you can grow any non-abstract body part, what parts or combination of parts would be generally speaking the most useful, assuming that all new body parts are oriented such that they are able to perform their originally intended purpose?

Faces would be good for Ego builds, except Chimera is still physical mutations only, so that'd have very limited use.
Arms would probably be the best offensive acquisition, but is it just the arm or do they include a hand? (and speaking of, how will gloves work now, since they only come in pairs?)
Legs will add greater mobility and carry weight, good utility.
But I think torsos will probably be the unsung hero here, as they add perhaps the most useful slot, the back. You can wear Robo Arms, Flamethrowers, Nanopneumatic Jackhammers, Hive Racks, you name it with torsos.

Yeah more places to grow fungi on.

Now we can grow torsos(torsi?) on our feet so we can go body surfing.

Whaaaaaaaat?
How?

Growing additional limbs that have mutations associated with them only gives extra slots it seems. It also appears second torsos can't be grown from my gameplay so far, unless the RNG just isn't liking me.

Was a joke, sorry for getting your hopes up.
If it's any consolation I'm sad about it too.
So far I've managed to grow an arm complete with extra hand, a new head with face on my right hand, a tentacle of dubious location, and a pincer that's almost as strong as carbide weaponry. All in all, quite satisfied with chimeras so far.

The caveat to all this is I haven't put a single mutation point into upgrading any current mutations, and always save them for buying a new mutation with the additional body part.

My guy is dumb as a box of rocks, but with my current build (and the amazing stroke of luck that was not just finding a rhinox corpse in the flower fields, but butchering it into a slender rhinox maul) I've had little problems so far.

So now there is no way to have a physical-focused mutant without going full Cronenberg? Great.

Sure there is, just either don't take chimera or be real light on the extra mutations -- build tall instead of wide.

Though... now that you mention it, a defect that prevents extra limbs might be interesting. Either chimera specific and just nixing the extra stuff, or more broadly applicable and preventing both that and multiple arms/legs/etc.

I could even see a fairly heavy defect (4-5 points? Physical defect, of course, so it's not a no-brainer for espers) that locked out all the body part modification mutations and mutation effects -- no carapace, no two headed, no wings, etc.

Actually kinda' odd there aren't morphotype specific defects, now that I think about it. There's ones that get locked out if you're chimera or esper, but none that get accessed by being one. Chimera defect stopping the extra limbs (or another that supercharges them, giving a chance with every mutation point spent instead of when buying new ones!) would be an obvious candidate.

You don't need the extra limbs, I went for a full unstable genome and just started buying mutations, they aren't always useful or the mutation might not be one you really want with the extra limb. Not to mention all those points you could be using to level up the good mutations. It a fairly good trade off.

You don't need to sorry for that, really.

Seems very decent sugesstion.

Now we need to think out, how to make True Kin's bulds random, cause they are always the same. Mutants have Unstable Genome with Irritable Genome - my favorite combo now.
