Games like this?
I'm looking for more games with simple visuals, and deep mechanics.

Already into dwarf fortress, rimworld, kenshi, space station 13, etc.

Anyone have any suggestions? My current PC is pretty garbage and I won't have a top end til next month, so I'm looking for more stuff to get into. :praisesun:

Oh, and if you're curious as far as limitations. The graphics card is an intel iRISXe and that should say plenty. Pretty much nothing works, as this is my work laptop.

Just as a note for a lot of the games you listed there (simulation part) a good CPU is pretty important, which is (was?) not even an important part for a lot of new PCs. A "garbage" PC will likely have problems when there are lots of actors simulated, even if the graphics are low resolution.

FPS death is a common issue in late game for those types of games.

It's an itel i7-1355U, haven't had too many issues. Most modern, or even games from about 5 or 6 years ago crash and burn. Kenshi seems to have memory overflow issues, so that's one of the ones I can't touch here. Tons of crashes. Dwarf fortress does lag at endgame but it's manageable.

SS13 works on everything i've ever owned lmao

-DCSS ( dungeon crawler stone soup : free )
-TOME ( Tales of Maj'Eyal : on steam )
-Rift Wizard 1&2 ( Steam )
-CDDA ( Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead : free )

And probably many others that I'm forgetting but it's a good start

Yeah, Rimworld trying to pathfind for like 35+ pawns means the game runs slow no matter how fast you set it...

Well, If you like Caves of Q u d, you might like The Doors of Trithius.
It’s a turn based, open world, traditional Roguelike RPG, like Caves of Q u d, but it is fantasy, not science fiction / science fantasy.

An Approachable Open World CRPG
The Doors of Trithius is tough, but is still very approachable, as death only sets you back to your last zone load, limiting the loss of progress on death, sort of like one of the gameplay options Q u d has.

This sort of limited permadeath option is present in The Doors of Trithius, where death takes you back to your last position on the world map, with the game automatically saving when you hit the open world map travel screen, and at the last traveled stair as well.
It’s as if death never happened; merely a vision of a possible series of events that did not occur in this reality. It’s all just a bad dream adventurer…

This is very good, as hardcore permadeath can be a tough sell for many players in a very large open world RPG, where a death can means many, many hours of lost progress!
And if you don’t care for that feature, the dev plans to add an optional hard-core / permadeath mode.

It’s fair, as Doors of Trithius is still early access after all, so it is a nice compromise in case of unexpected bugs. I have not come across any like that in my current 22 hours in game, but better safe than sorry here.

Explore the world like Caves of Qud, and Lvl Up Like in DaggerFall!
Select from 1 of the current 8 classes, and customize them your way, choosing their available traits and skills to help create the kind of character you want to play.

Like in the classic Elder Scrolls games like DaggerFall, Morrowind, Oblivion, and even Skyrim, your character makes progress towards a lvl up by exercising their skills.
Like Blades, or Axes, or Medicine, Botany, or Cooking, and you put points into each Weapon Mastery and Skill as they increase, choosing which of the many active and passive options tied to each one you want.
Stacking accuracy or bleed chance with blades?
Unlock a whirlwind type attack at a high energy cost?
Maybe choose Botany to identify and harvest forest herb and mushrooms absent accident, and ready to fuel your Medicine and Alchemical potion creation? You choose!

Unlock more cooking recipes, or save up for a chance to double each meal prepared?
In short: If you do a thing that uses a skill, that skill increases. Get enough increases, then nap and lvl.
And like in Caves of Qud, you have a wide Open World that is Procedurally Generated, full of Forests to hunt and gather goodies, Caves to creep around if you’re feeling bold, and Dungeons to cleanse and loot. So much to Explore! So much to Fight, and Find and Strengthen your Character! So Good!

Early, But Awesome!
Note: Doors of Trithius may be in Early Access, but that often means early fun, as well as an opportunity to help shape this ambitious indie game going forward!
So what say you Hero?
Shall you help shape the future?
Shall you stand against the shadow in this old school, Top Down, Turn Based, RPG adventure?
Or rise as a new dread specter to cloak the world in your will? C
limb the tower, Crack the Door, and find out.
Intense, Top Down, Dungeon Crawler, Action Awaits! Onward Hero!
Watch, and see the Immersive, Indie, Open World CRPG Turn Based Action?

Project Zomboid is a great one with simple visuals and deep mechanics. It also has permadeath and role playing elements

CoQ is one of my favourite games in my favourite genre!
Here are a few other traditional(ish) rouge-likes that are also great (and should run on a potato):

* Cataclysm DDA (free)
* Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup (free)
* TOME (steam)
* ADOM (steam / free)
* Cogmind (steam)
* Keeper RL (steam / free ASCII)
* Elona+ (free)
* Dungeons of Dreadmor (steam)

Honourable mention to Tangledeep (steam) made by the same people that brought us CoQ if I'm not mistaken. I personally bounced off of it, but it looks like there is a fair bit of depth to enjoy there.
Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup.
free and a great fantasy based Roguelike

CDDA is great as far as depth goes. You can become a mutant, wizard, and I think cybernetics maybe with some mods. It's more focused on survival than CoQ is but you can build vehicles tile-by-tile until you have a solar powered death tank rolling over giant mutant zombies. I played this after CoQ and it feels very similar in gameplay but with a much higher difficulty curve and level of depth in mechanics.

Doors of Trithius is a good fantasy roguelike in EA that's a little more similar to CoQ in terms of generally streamlined play with quests.

TOME is great for running specific builds and theory crafting but isn't really like a sandbox experience that CoQ has with the massive map with RNG.

OK if you are playing on PC and don't mind even harder games, try Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead. More of a Dwarf Fortress-like learning curve and very strong survival/hide/steal flavor in early game. Not resource intensive, but also not pleasant to play on mobile imo even though there is an app. Also free if you look in the right places! Buggy as hell but the bugs mostly aren't killers it's been developed so long.
