Lost, stuck in a box
I got the lost status while wandering the world map, but it spawned me into an area that's basically just a tiny stone walled box with no exits to other areas. Because of this, there's no way to find my bearings and return to the world map since there are no NPCS and there's no way to reach the area edge. Is there something I'm missing here or can the game just randomly soft lock you like this?

you can use a recoiler or dig out the walls manually
ctrl + numpad forces an attack in a direction

Yeah, if you don't have a recoiler, better hope that you at least got a pickaxe...

All I have is a sword, lmao

I hacked my way into the neighboring area, but it's also solid rock.

You can try looking for border pieces on the other side of the rock wall to see places where it ends or at least changes into a different, hopefully softer material.
Failing that, you can use the wish command to put yourself in a better place.

If you're a mutant, can also pop skulk to dig quicker. But otherwise, yeah, have fun digging your way out the hard way... probably won't run out of water, though will probably have to stop and eat at least once.

Just hit walls with your sword until you get out. You can just hold down the button to attack with ctrl.

Got bored. I have no idea how many squares the walls were in any direction, chopped eight left, got nowhere, chopped 8 right got nowhere. chopped down into neighboring area, also full of rocks.

Overall the "you get lost" mechanic really sucks. I even have the nav implant now after a lucky foray to the bottom of the rusty arch or whatever it's called and it does ♥♥♥♥ all. I get lost every few squares and then usually die to a horde of goatfolk or a robot while trying to get unlost. I understand why it's in the game, but it happens way, way too often, to the point that it just makes world map travel incredibly tedious.

The Wilderness lore jungle is one of the best things to take. The map has so much jungle. Get at least the initial unlock from Wayfaring and getting traveling is already so much better.

The Wayfaring skill can help reduce the chances of getting lost while travelling on the world map, so definitely put points in that when you level up. You can improve your chances even more with equipables like compass bracelets, if that's any help.

Getting lost and spawning into an enclosed area doesn't happen often so I'm sure it was a gist of bad luck. Stronger weapons eventually do break walls more efficiently. I'm not 100% sure but I think "Masterwork" weapons are good against walls since they do critical hits twice often.

Also after doing the first few quests on any playthrough, you get a "Recoiler" which teleports you to your starting town.

The jungle is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ brutal. First time heading east I ran into a mob of eight goatmen, lmao

For a new player it is usually best to follow the main quest mostly, with some locations you find close by, especially historical sites. That grants a more linear scale up in difficulty than exploring. Until you entered Grit Gate, there are no jungle tiles you have to cross and the jungle up the next quest step is lower in tier than the jungle after that.

You can still find goatfolk somewhat early though. They can hurt a lot, but they also drop pretty good gear. Usually lots of upgrades from snapjaw drops

Goatmen are basically just mid-game snapjaws...

♥♥♥♥♥ I just bought this game a few days ago, cut me some slack. I can take them one or two on one, but I run into issues with groups and firebombers.

For my new run I took the carbide fists and dumped all my points into strength. It works great in melee, but I'm useless at range so the bomb throwers delete half my health before I can even get to them and they usually don't work alone.
