buying / crafting ammo
hi y'all, playing a gunslinger and currently farther than I've ever been (l10, stiltgrounds)

just curious if there's a merchant in the stiltgrounds who sells ammo

OR

if I am able to craft ammo for myself with basic tinkering (I only have one level in it currently I believe), and how I would do so

There may be several gun merchants in the Stilt area. Check the whole circle.

You can craft ammo by randomly finding lead slug blueprints (or randomly getting the option when taking the Tinker skills) or by having Psychometry and touching a lead slug inappropriately to learn its blueprint. Disassembly doesn't seem to work unfortunately.

Piste III begins anew with flaming hands, psychometry, heightened hearing and night vision.

he'll miss his carapace but looks forward to firing many a slug.

so do I have to touch an un-IDed slug to use psychometry? I don't seem to have the option to use it on one of the slugs in my inv currently

I find that by regularily checking in with merchants, getting the slug DD is just a matter of time.

It is also one of the cheapest data disks in the game. Spending four (!) mutation points on Psychometry just to get the recipe for bullets is extremely wasteful - for that much, you could start with Light Manipulation or Sunder Mind and use those instead of your guns until you can buy the recipe.

As someone who can never be bothered to actually use my activated abilities- I like taking psychometry and a couple other passive mutations and just play a run and gun build. I've actually gotten into the habit of running it with 10 ego and just never bothering with merchants at all. Is it optimal? Probably not. But, I've managed to clear Bethesda Susa with the playstyle, so I don't think it's entirely without merit.

Remember, you can assign mutations a key from the mutation-activation menu. I recommend assigning your main ranged attack mutation (usually Light Manipulation's Lase, Burning / Freezing Hands, or Sunder Mind) to the Z key for easy use.

currently running an esper with lase, sunder, sprint, wall, and proselytize on keys 1-5 :)
