The main way people learn about it seems to be if the Alchemist dies, which causes it to go off and usually results in an unexpected player death.
And what use it has other than blowing yourself up. :)
And what's The Alchemist? Are we talking about someone besides a random seller in Six Day Stilt? Because I've seen it sold there.
If it has a massive range, and the Alchemist is a bad guy, it seems like it should not spawn on him for obvious reasons, because guns don't have a multi-screen range, and Neutron Flux seems a bit stronger than a Hand- E Nuke.
The alchemist is a neutral merchant at bethesda susa floor 8, he is pretty well hidden and his tile blends in with surroundings, so he can be pretty hard to see, he always sells phials of all liquids in the game, including neutron flux and cloning draught.
I think it's more referenencing the force of the explosion on your face. A nuclear bomb generates temperatures that are about twice as much as the core of the sun for a very very very brief moment in a localized area. This just basically acts like a supernova went off in your face. :)
So, I figure this just acts like a slightly larger hand-e-nuke, although, I believe Neutron Flux is also a reference to Neutron Star material.
Since the Neutrons in a Neutron star are well, not what I call amazingly stable and all systems working at 100%. :)
