Why is the Discord STILL locked for about 3 months?
I can't believe their discord is still locked. What are they so afraid of? New Players? This sort of behavior is what keeps me from buying this game right now. Until the devs start to actually care for their community, I will not be able to buy the game with clear conscience.

The community is why the discord got locked in the first place.

You can thank Sseth's trolling and encouraging his followers to do the same for that.

When a popular youtuber makes a video on such game it's expected to see a high influx of users and locking it for few days or weeks is understandable. But for over 3months? That's just paranoia.

"It's not paranoia if they really are after you"

Joke aside, I think you underestimate the persistence of a few determined putus troll as well as the potential snowball effet it can have.

Also, there is other stuff than discord in life.
I find it odd that not having unfettered access to a game's discord would disuade one from buying said game.

I've never needed access to any discord to enjoy a game. What does the discord give that makes it invaluable?

I'm *in* the discord and tbh, would find not having access to these Steam forums (which are pretty quiet) a bigger issue than if I lost discord access.

I'd love to understand OPs reasoning.

If I'm not mistaken, their discord is basically the only hub for all of the player to ask their questions about the game. At current time it's impossible for a new player or a potential buyer to be part of that community or ask about the game's pros and cons in detail. And if we would ignore all that, it's just so insulting to think everybody who isn't already a "friend" of the developer must be some troll. I can't believe the devs honestly think there's some horde waiting behind their gates at all times. How long do they even want to keep it locked? Forever? Because it doesn't seem like they plan to open it anytime soon. It's the most insulting and anti-consumer thing I've ever seen from an indie developer. They should really be ashamed.

What did you do 10-20 years ago if you wanted to play a game? As far as I know, not many games had discord servers back then. I think your complaint doesn't have much substance to it- the devs aren't obligated to run a public discord server for the game. If you wanted or needed to contact a developer or ask the community about this game, this isn't how you do it.

surely you understand why this reply is ironic, right? also pretty ironic that you have a private profile.

I think they did have forums back in the day. And no, it's not ironic that I'm using a forum to ask about the *main* centre for the community.

Clearly it isn't the *main* centre for the community if its private- its a private community hosted by the developers as of right now. The irony is that you're dismissing the utility of forums in favor of their discord server while presently using the forum to complain about it. But to be clear- you can do the things listed in your example just as easily here as on their discord server. You might wait a little longer for a reply, but thats how it be.

As you said, It would be ironic to dismiss the utility of forums if I was using them. Luckily, that's not the case, because I haven't cought myself saying anything like that yet. Now, let's stop acting like children by standing by illogical option no matter what. If you were to say that Discord doesn't generate much more value for the players than something like Steam Discussions you would be consciously lying. You know it's not truth, everybody does. What happens on the Discord is miles away from what can happen here. There's really no denying that. So stop blindly defending whoever you're even defending. Are you defending the devs? Alright, it's "their Discord and their choice", which is a correct statement. Not a right arugment though - I'm here to criticize this decision, because it hurts them and the community more than having it open. You need to be seriously paranoid to think that Sseth or whoever is secretly waiting in the shadows to strike and destroy the Discord. Do you think he and his community don't have anything better to do? Do you think it's some sort of private army that spends all day raiding some small indie studio discord, a discord of a game that was *recommended* to them? Do the devs really think that they're *that* important? There's seriously not a logical reason to act this way and there's not a reason why not to point out how childish and insultive they are to their community by doing this.

Thanks
why not just use this forum. the devs respond all the time to valid posts.

I asked a fairly daft question the other day to which I got a dev response.

i used to work in a nightclub. we charged folk 5 quid extra to acess upstairs. there was no difference to downstairs, we just decided to call it VIP. folk clamoured to get in there. I was even offered sexual services to gain access. it seems the minute something is closed off to the general public they get desperate to get in.

having limited access to the discord won't limit ones enjoyment of the game.
