New mutations aren't randomizing?
So I've started playing again after the mutation overhaul and I apologize in advance if this has already been answered but when you buy a new mutation with 4 mutation points are they no longer randomized?

I liked using precog to get exactly what I wanted but I'm not getting anything different so now i'm sitting on 8 MPs wondering if I should just take stinger :steamfacepalm:

Sorry to say but mutations are much more stable now. While this means precog no longer lets you roll until you get what you want the silver lining would be that as a community we could probably collect seeds that give set mutations.
The update was a while back, but Mutation Selection doesn't reroll *as easily* as it used to. I believe there are still circumstances where you can make them reroll, but it's not as simple as walking over to the next screen and using precognition again.

There are things that reset the available mutations. Using an Eater's nectar injector or getting hit by the mutating gaze of a gamma moth are the only two I'm aware of though. Since I also like to predetermine what mutations I get here's what I do. First, I begin testing seeds by starting a test seed then wishing for a few levels using "xp: (whatever number)" to get my first few mutations, then when I find a seed where the first few mutation choices are to my liking, I start a new game with that same seed and play up until that point. The rest gets kinda tricky, and may depend on how willing you are to use the wish command on your game, and if you have save/reload enabled. You can either wish for a gamma moth (pick a safe location away from followers or important NPCs), let them hit you for the "mutating" effect (use hulk honey or cooking for extra hp if you can't survive it), use wish to get rid of the gamma moth (geno:gamma moth), save, then reload and the mutating effect shouldn't do anything and dissipate on its own (this is likely a bug, but is useful here for what we're trying to do) and after, it will reroll you a set of new mutation choices. Alternatively, you could wait until you find an Eater injector, but they're rare enough that you may use one and still not like your mutation choices. I've had to reroll my mutation choices as many as 20 times before I got the mutation I was looking for. I know this is pretty clunky, but it's what I've been using to get the mutations I want without just wishing for the mutation and having leftover mutation points. Usually, I use the empty room across from Sheba in the cathedral and just roleplay it as some mechanimist mutagenic ritual.

statpenalty:MP:4 will spend the 4mp if you wanted to just wish and spend for it

Ultimately, I think there should absolutely there be no way to reroll the choices. It only makes the min maxing even more tedious. Either let people just reroll at will or make it impossible no matter what. This is giving me elona savescuming fountains for wishes flashbacks.

Did not know this. It's been awhile since I last looked at the list of available wish command though. Thank you!

@rooster918 Thanks for the information! gamma moths and eater nectars sound like a good way to reroll the mutations without breaking too much immersion. If I get far enough I do tend to find one or the other.

You're very welcome!

The last cook skill that gives random buffs to recipes could sometimes come with one buff that also reroll the traits, I don't remember the details though

Wouldn't you need to cook with a rare ingredient (eg. a drop of nectar) or canned have-it-all for that?

"reload" wish also works

Necroposting, but:

"I liked using precog to get exactly what I wanted but I'm not getting anything different so now i'm sitting on 8 MPs wondering if I should just take stinger :steamfacepalm:"

The devs intentionally pathced precog so you can no longer save scum for your preferred mutations.
P.S. Stinger is pretty good.

Don't forget that drops of nectar also do the same thing as an eater's injector.
