Why are the devs so upset about Sseth's review?

He praised the game, recommended it and got it tons of sales, yet they're screaming about racism(???) and such in the discord and on twitter.

What exactly is going on? Is this just another case of American political brainwashing?

Everyone is just upset we found out the dev is a sad sad man. 124.2k tweets, half of them political. The sort of person who was surprised by 2016 no doubt and will be surprised again in a few weeks. Out of touch with reality.

Game is great tho.

It's reasonably easy to spot when you know what you're seeing.

how do you know if they are altright trolls or not, and arent just thinking you are dumb and wrong?

See this is here a really good example of a bad actor. VeryRare here responds to a statement with a completely unrelated, unsubstantiated claim. The goal here is to derail the conversation or just stir up ♥♥♥♥ without actually engaging with anything that's actually being said. Thanks VeryRare for the very good example.
