[HELP] full screen scaling issue / Mac OS
So I purchased caves of qud yesterday, but the game doesn't seem to handle full screen properly on my monitor. Whenever I set it in full screen, it sets the display on a square 1:1 resolution with 2 large bands on the left and right sides.

However, the actual placement is set like it was in proper full screen : let's say if i want to click on something at the bottom left of the game display (the 1:1 square), I actually need to have my cursor on the bottom left of my screen (so in the bottom of the left band).

Damn, it's quite a mess to explain, I hope it's clear enough.

When I come back to windowed mode, the game is still in a 1:1 resolution, but I can stretch it and everything displays fine. Back to fullscreen, squared again.

I've tried switching between resolutions, uninstall/reinstall, google etc...

I'm on mac OS btw (13" macbook pro), anyone ever had encountered this issue?

let's say if I want to click on "HELP", I actually need to go and click on the bottom left of my screen in the left band, and not where the word "HELP" is displayed.

There's a known issue with retina display scaling. (Unity is reporting the scaled resolution) Change the fullscreen resoltion to "unset" in game and then use the command line paramaters

-screen-width w -screen-height h

Where w and h are whatever your display size is.

Thanks for your quick reply. Where do I type this command line?

I had this same issue. Might be a total crapshoot, but for whatever reason what worked for me was exiting out of fullscreen and then using the Window menu in the Menu Bar at the top of the desktop screen to enter fullscreen again. Maybe give that a try if you’re still having trouble.

For anyone else having this issue, here's what you want to do:

  1. Go to the Caves of Qud page in your library
  2. Click on the Cog icon on the top right hand side
  3. Select Properties
  4. In the General tab under the Launch Options section enter
    -screen-width 1900 -screen-height 1080
or whatever your screen resolution is

I'm having this same issue, but launch options string doesn't fix it. I thought it would at first, because when i first launch the game, it shows the main menu screen in fullscreen, but then it immediately switches back to the black boxes on the left and right sides. The only way the resolution looks correct is if I disable fullscreen, but then the game is too dang small and I can't see anything.

Is there a way to disable the new UI and go back to legacy UI? I didn't have any of these issues with the old UI.

Oh man, I guess I'm just stupid.. AlphaBeard stated it and I guess I just didn't understand, but now it just clicked in my brain.. In the in-game settings, there's actually a resolution size under "fullscreen resolution" called "unset". THAT, plus the launch option string fixed it for me!
