Ancient Bones in Waterlogged Tunnel

For the first time, I haven't been able to find the ancient bones in the Waterlogged Tunnel. Are they really guaranteed to spawn, or is it just a very high chance? I've scoured the entire river up and down and haven't had any luck--I even killed all the beetlebums in case one of them had eaten the items.

Is it possible for them to spawn behind a wall?

Pretty sure behind a wall could happen.

Yeah if you can't find them there are there just hidden behind a rock wall, if you have Clairvoyance or Burrowing Claws you can look for them.

After digging around for a while and looking for places where I could see empty space on the other side of walls, I eventually broke through into a chamber and found them in a little sealed-off space. Devious.

Or just use the pickaxe to dig thr... nevermind.

My last game I had to dig through a wall to get to him... so confirmed: he can spawn in a non-accessible part of the map.
